Stock car on the track? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Hi, my name is Federico, and i live in Brazil... i currently own a GT-86 and i planning on going to my first Track Day (2 days track day, around April, its still hot in here that time of the year). My car is almost stock. Only thing is 17 inch wheels + 225/45 Yokohama Advant Tires (don't remember the exact model, 9.000 km/around 5.000 miles on them). I'm getting a OFT tune soon, and may have the OFH before going to the track.. not sure yet. My question is related to brake pads, brake fluid, and tires. The car has 15.000 km or 9.000 miles. Do you guys think i definitely need new brake pads (its hard to get racing brake pads for this car here, so i would just put brand new stock ones), racing break fluid, and new tires??? (tires are around half life... give it or take).
Just remember that getting stuff for this car here is HARD, and importing isn't cheap at all. Also is my first TD, so ill take it slow...

I would definitely do fluid, you can run OEM pads if you are gentle enough. I'd personally suggest both but fluid is an absolute must.

For your first track day, I think you'll be fine with stock pads, but you should maybe pick up an extra set of stock pads just in case. If you still have tires mounted on your oem rims, I would bring those also.

Thanks for the replies! The fluid is easy enough to get here, which one do you guys recommend? OEM wheels and tires are gone.. (sold).

On the more easily accessible side I like ATE Super Blue (although I've boiled it in my BRZ), Motul RBF 600 and AP super 600. I use the AP fluid currently. On the less accessible scale there are a few, but any of the three I just named would work fine for you.

With the OEM pads just pay attention to pad fad. Can't just quickly bleed brakes between sessions to fix it...

My first three track days with this car were stock everything except brake fluid...didn't take it slow either. It's fine, the car's actually pretty forgiving stock. You'll obviously put down faster lap times with racing pads as you can brake later, and with suspension mods you'll have more grip to carry greater speeds through corners but it isn't necessary for a fun track day.

My first track day... everything stock. I hit 1000 miles during my first ever track lap. (1:41 was the fastest for me @ SOW CCW)

My 2nd track day...still everything stock. (1:38 was the fastest for me @ SOW CCW)

Fun stuff. For my next track day, I'll be putting in brake/differential/transmission fluids along with racing brake pads.

what do you guys think about stop tech street performance pads?? I know there is a topic about this, but could find many opinions on this one... (ones opinion was good/decent the other was terrible). Thansk!

If any1 is interested, the pad on the left was my Oem pads after 1 track day.

Of recommend new pads and fluids. The stock tires give you a good feel of the cars limits with out going too far and having to scrap it lol.

mmmmm considering that my tires arent stock, Yokohama A.Drive R1 225/45/17... and they are kinda good (i think), i get the feeling im going to destroy my break pads... even more me being a newb on the track...

@CSG Mike , what pads would you recommend for a DD but can take the abuse on occasional track days? I don't have the cash for a BBK so I'll have to settle for beefier pads and high temp fluid. I have 25k on the car already so when I do the brakes I plan on putting better rotors and pads instead of OEM replacements from the dealer.
