Garage
Depends... would like to sleep comfortably in your bed at night or spend the next 10 to 15 years developing a relationship with Big Jim when he decides to bunk with you for those lonely nights?

In colorado I sure as hell could have. The second he crossed the threshold law says I could have blown him away.
13 rounds from a 44Mag desert eagle would have been very persuasive.

It is called the "Make my day law" for a reason....

Is this serious? He pushed your family and came into your home and you did nothing? I understand having self control and such but letting someone walk all over you (literally) is probably worse than having smashed his head in when he forcefully intruded...

Christ people, yeah he's drunk, way out of line, and probably has mental health issues, but I think the op handled things like a grown man. How many of you guys actually have shot someone dead or taken a bat to someone's head? C'mon with the tough guy crap...

Notice the "no matter how slight".

Ummm... He's DRUNK, probably has mental health issues, he "let himself in" and he touched your mother and was verbally abusive.
I would have definitely retrieved my gun. Not sure if I would have used it.

But everyone of the things you mentioned above is a sign that things could go very badly very quickly.

Just the sound of chambering a round would have probably shut him the hell up.

this is actually why i keep a breaker bar next to my front door. haven't had to use it, fortunately, but it's more for deterrence, than having to actual hit someone with.

OP, only thing i would have done differently is call the cops as soon as things started escalating. Other than that, props on keeping a level head.

If someone were to trespass uninvited and get physical with my family irregardless of the other shit the guy pulled, either he's being carried out on a stretcher or I am.

I 100% disagree. I'll be the first to tell you I have ZERO self defense training or experience. I have only ever had 1 physical altercation, funny enough involving road rage. This guy came at me out of his tow truck, grabbed the collar of my shirt, I just instinctively put my fist square in his face. Guess what, he stopped jumped back in his truck and drove away.

There is a place for pacifism and a place for violence. Letting a guy harass you, damage your property, and invade your home with no recourse seems like a great way to show you are a ***** who will let anyone do anything to you.

The OP didn't have to be violent but he could have at least called the police and tried to hold him until they got there. Or even just video tape the escalation of events. It seems he had plenty of time to get out a camera and document the crimes committed.

I agree, he could've called the police, didn't have to be violent.

I think the 'tough guy' crap everybody's spewing out is a bit much.

He came into my house yelling, so I shoot him? Don't think so.
