Maintenance Schedule Question

Hey everyone

I got my FRS at the end of August, and when I got it, the Scion Rep told me that this car requires an oil change every 7500 miles or 5 months. So I was due for a 5 month oil change a few weeks ago. But I hit my own speed bump and had knee surgery so I didn't drive my car for a solid 2 months. Given that I'm barely under 4000 miles, and didn't drive it for 2 months, do I need to get my oil changed ASAP, or can I wait until I hit the 7500 mile mark? I get to start driving this weekend, and I warmed her up a little bit a couple days ago to get her moving again. I just don't know enough about mechanics to know if an oil change is 100% necessary at the given intervals.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

I believe the interval is actually 7.5 months. My dealer said the first oil change was due at 3750 miles. I would do it soon though.

Well, TRD4life, like they say in the old country ...... "it's not a problem until it's a problem".

As far as your engine is concerned, it will probably be just fine. However, if a problem arises with the engine and you didn't follow the maintenance schedule, some dealerships may give you a hard time about engine related warranty work.

To be on the safe side, I'd suggest you go with the 7,500 miles or 7.5 month plan......

I'm following the maintenance schedule as outlined in the official instructions. Which is 7.5K miles or 7.5 months.

If you think about it, oil changes are relatively cheap compared to the cost of insurance and regular gas. You can buy a 5-quart jug of 0W-20 Mobile 1 at Walmart for around $25, plus another $7+ for an oil filter.

Better to just do it and not be lazy.

My dealership sent me an email saying, I will be due soon for 7500 miles or 8 months. I will have had the car for 8 months in March. Though, I'm at 3470 miles I'll just change it locally, because driving a little over an hour isn't worth the savings. I'll just save my service receipts.

"Dear Danny Brandt, Your 2013 BRZ may be due for its first scheduled maintenance – 7,500 Mile or 8 Month Maintenance."

Though they sent a coupon with it, they didn't say anything being a free oil change like when I bought it.
