Best bet is to get a loaded BRZ Limited from Clint Earhart at @HeubergerMotors in Colorado. Get = Below MSRP (possibly even below invoice), Pay = Fewer taxes, Have = Car transported to you. This is no joke, maybe 50 board members or more already have.

Everything you need to know is here http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43287

OR

Get a BASE FR-S for CHEAP and spend the rest of the money on parts that actually make the car faster rather than convenience stuff like leather, dual climate, HIDs, seat heaters, etc. (just my preference).

25K Base (+your potential build)
Powertrain
Tune - OFT - $550 (E85 comes Free with tune)
Header - OFH - $550
FI - Phantom ESC TQ250 Kit - $1600 + $130 for batteries

Suspension
Wheels / Tires - $1500 (Your choice (new or used))
Suspension - $1500 (many options for coilovers/springs+struts here)

Brakes
Pads $125
SS Brake lines $125
Fluid $50

Total
$31,130ish - For an actually quick/fast car that you can daily drive + autoX/HDPE and not just hard park.

***Base - 165-175 WHP / 135-140 WTQ with torque dip
***DAE's build - 225-235 WHP / 200-205 WTQ with torque mountain

Optional
Exhaust - Any $500 catback (they all make the same power, this is just for sound)
Tint - Huper Optik all around $300

If you buy a car brand stinking new in another state like Nevada, like I did because that was my experience - 2008 Subaru Hatchback non Turbo. The California DMV wanted the difference in Taxes from Nevada to California!!! When we went to get the new plates it was something like over $1,800+ to get the plates and requisites. We said "F" that and took a trip from Bakersfield to Reno and paid something less than $100 after a Smog Test since Reno is in the same county as Tahoe because they want to keep the air clean up there. So every year in Washoe County you need a Smog Check.

We took a trip up to Reno, used a friend's address as our our and saved a shit load of money, and ate some damn good sushi. I tell people that Reno is the World Capital of Sushi in the United States! We did that for two years before the car was stolen.

Um, yea. That's how state taxes work - I had to do that on my BRZ. You are required to pay the sales tax based on the county and state you live in (Ohio where I'm from is different in each county).

FYI, this is not to be considered legal advice in any way shape or form. That said, I'm an attorney and IMO it's not a good idea to go around bragging about the way you got around it. If the state found out, I imagine they'd consider that some sort of tax fraud.

Well that dont matter anyway since the Subie got Stolen and we bought an Elantra in Cali. So they got their tax for that car.
