OP, I do t know you whole situation but sticker says 9.5L/100km in city and 6.5L/100km highway.

Now today I did my first fill up ever with the car. Picked it up new on Friday. I was at 1/4 tank left. Now I know when I reached 3/4 left it was reading 19.5L/100km average, at 1/2 tank was down to 12.5L/100km and at time of fill up(1/4 left) the average read 9.8L/100km. Now I use an app on my iphone and manually calculate and record my fuel mileage and was actually 10.5L/100km.

Nonetheless why the change from 19.5 to 10.5, changed how much car was sitting and idling( hard when want to prewarm car in -15C to -30C weather, coasting more to stops / less braking as much as possible, reducing amount step on pedal / keeping rpm under 3000 when shifting, and maintaining speed. I know over time with learning more of the car and break in, fuel consumption will he better

For city speed limits 50-60km/hr I stay in 5th, anything over 65km/hr would be in 6th

Yes, those days. Carburetor is correct.

For the younger ones here, you'd know the car, Datsun, as a Nissan. They changed their name in the U.S. some time ago to Nissan.

However, I found out with my 2006 Miata that the ECU did a pretty good job of making adjustments, up to 14,000 ft at least.
Yeah, okay. As I thought about it, I figured that modern computerized systems with their sophisticated sensors, etc. would do a good job of adapting.

Wow Aaron you're situation looks pretty much like mine. So you did your second fill up and had last 1/4 tank left? or I misunderstood? You're having the same numbers I had at first I had around 18litres per 100km and it's pretty much reproducing your same scenario. Keep me more informed , can you detail a little bit more. You're in canada right? and have a Toyota 86 FT manual ?
How are you shifting gears, which gear are you using most of the time, are you keeping the rpm's constant or fluctuating? ( do you use the G-on which shows the gears and tells you the exact moment when to shift) ?

That stuff gives me the willies! Heh. We can talk like that and the youngsters are confused. Kind of like the WW II Navaho Code Talkers

They finished paving Pikes Peak clean to the top. Now the Pikes Peak Hillclimb event is ALL PAVED. It's madness, the speeds they now attain.

Check out the video of Sebastian Loeb's record-shattering run in the 2013 Race to the Clouds. They were already going too fast on dirt, but now... Mama Mia!

We all have our own ideas about breaking in a new car, and I don't mean to tell you how to do it. But, that upshift indicator suggests shifting at a point that will regularly drop your rpms well down into the teens in the next gear. You're going to be lugging your engine in my opinion if you follow that.

I suppose shifting that early and running at such low rpms is acceptable to some after the engine is broken in, but I would suggest keeping the rpms at or above 2000 rpm during the break-in period.

I find that upshift indicator to be essentially useless.

And sorry about all the Pikes Peak talk.

Are you a motor racing fan?

Yep, the young folks seem to be talking in code ..... I have to keep going to the urban dictionary to figure out if they are making fun of me or complimenting me ...... "sick" is an example that comes to mind.

In a way, it's too bad they paved it the whole way.....

guys I know this is not the thread to discuss detailing and waxing and stuff. But I'm not that savvy into the best techniques to leave our Scion/Toyo86 with an outstanding look. What would be the best steps .

1) Wash with a neutral shampoo ? ( silicon based?) Any amazon links.
2) Use an Acrylic sealer wax? [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Car-Cleaner-Wax-oz/dp/B0009IQX0E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1392880041&sr=8-2&keywords=meguiars+cleaner+wax"]Meguiar's Car Cleaner Wax. 11 oz. : Amazon.com : Automotive[/ame]

Drop me ideas need to learn

Well, dssence ...... my short answer is to wash it with a liquid dish washing soap (to remove old wax); go over it with a clay bar (removes impurities & smooths out the surface) then, wax it with a high quality wax. After that, wash it with a car wash product (so as not to remove the wax), then wax it again in 6 months.....
