The reason it rattles is b/c of how the cotter pin is reinserted. When it was originally in, you had both ends in the slot. When re-inserting it, you simply cannot do this, so you just insert it backwards with just one side into the hole.

Solution? Wrap the cotter pin in electrical tape?

So maybe a larger pin or thicker washer?

Nothing about being elite.. If I was elite I would have a much more expensive car 😉 The rattle that I am hearing has nothing to do with the rubber boot... It's a metal rattle.

Get yourself some heavy grease from the parts store and cover the mechanical bits that rattle. Supposed to have some heavy grease there anyway.

No Murica tape involved.

If a Kartboy part is rattling, you did something wrong. The Kartboy shifter on my STI is silent at all RPMs. If you didn't get the bushings and other shifter-related parts, they're well worth the money.

One of the reasons I didn't buy the 6MT BRZ is because the shifter and clutch pedal felt like my wife's old 07 Civic Si. Vague and mushy when compared to my 05 STI, which is beautifully notchy with the KB SS, bushing kit, and trans mount. I need to get the rest of the bushings on that car replaced now that it's become #racecar.

@kuhlka the shifter is installed correctly but I have not put the shift bushing in yet, do you think the stock bushing is the cause?

No it is not. I drove for several months with the stock bushing and the kb short shifter, and just recently installed the kb rear shifter bushing. Definite noticable improvement in shifting, but no change in the rattle at high rpms. In fact, that cotter pin rattle has increased (only at high rpms and a rough road), b/c of the firmer bushing.

The real instigator is that pin. If we were somehow able to get it re-installed the way it was stock, then I think we'd see a disappearance of the pin rattle.

I reinstalled mine from underneath the car, make it easier to install the stock way.

I may have to do that. That, and use a bit more of the blue grease kb provided with the SS kit.

I'm on my phone so if I make mistakes, blame Sportsguy83

Already made good user of it on the ball (that's what she said) & the rod (she said that too), & the bushing (*cough*cough*). Still have some left.

Did that stop the rattle?
