Nope. I even reinstalled mine with no luck. I'll be putting the stock one back in I think.

Did you guys re-install the black washer where the cotter pin goes?

Venator 02-18-2014 05:39 PM

Yeah I did... It's such a sweet SS but I HATE the rattle

Yeah I've been through that and am not in the mindset that duct tape solves everything. That's why I want to know the cause not some way to rig it quiet.

The cause is tolerance. Guess you must not want to fix it if you don't want to "rig" it. Tom gives an alternate solution in that thread as well; one that doesn't involve duct tape, Mr. Elite.

one of the bigger (biggest?) names in aftermarket Subaru short shifters for awhile now

This is probably the reason some are willing to sort out a rattle with some duct tape. Other than the rattle, they know they've got the best SS on the market.

The rattle is from the cotter pin, not the shifter against the lockout plate. Mine rattles only at high rpms. At that point, I don't really care.

The reason it rattles is b/c of how the cotter pin is reinserted. When it was originally in, you had both ends in the slot. When re-inserting it, you simply cannot do this, so you just insert it backwards with just one side into the hole.

Solution? Wrap the cotter pin in electrical tape? :iono:

Is the rattle THAT bad?
Was considering getting it but after all the fuzz, I'm not sure...
