Suspension option for autocross
http://ft86speedfactory.com/ft-86-lo...wift-1356.html
Anybody have experience with this? I've had my sights on KW V3, but honestly I don't want to spend so much. I'm going to be doing way more DD than autocross probably one autocross everyone two or three months, but I want something that'll be somewhat competitive. I already have the wheels and will be using either RS-3s or BFG Rivals. Are there any other good options around the same price possibly capping at $1500? Thanks in advanced. |

A lot of people seem to set their suspension budget at $1500, which is too bad because if you ask around enough, you can probably get KW V3s for $300 more.
My impression is that the FRS' suspension is already very capable for autox, despite apparently being "more tail happy" than the BRZ. Lowering springs would give you a slightly firmer ride for much cheaper than coilovers. You just don't have the adjustability. But as the saying goes, "set and forget" lol |

Honestly for auto-x you'll want something with more front spring rate than that. The same package from FT86 Speedfactory with our RCE Yellow or our RCE Tarmac springs might suit you better. Plus you get shortened bumpstops.
Here's a link to Konis + RCE Tarmac springs from an auto-x perspective. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39418 - Andy |

I underestimated the shortened bump stops long ago, and now am looking for a solution. Here is my public dose of crow-pie. Andy@RCE has seemingly put more R&D into the full effects of both the primary springs (steel coil) and secondary springs (bump stop) than most major mfgs.

If you don't need all the adjustability of the V3's look at the V1's or the RCE T0's.

Very happy with my kwv3 for dd use car is handling the shit new england winter roads (frost heaves and potholes galore) with a ride at least as good as oem. I also swapped the springs f/r for winter its actually been pretty beneficial, and is supposedly what to do for autox on that specific set. |

Thank you for the responses.
@utekineir Where in the world did you find KW V3 for $1800? I'm able to get them discounted to $1950 and that's before tax. @RCEAndy Thank you for the blog link. I'll be keeping up with it while I decide on if I'm willing to spend more on a set of coilovers. If not I'll be going with probably the koni yellow + RCE yellow package. |

It was a holiday coupon + sale back in november, basically got lucky and found a stacking deal, it was also from a nasioc vendor.
It actually ended up being like 1760. Point was, there are deals out there if you scour everywhere and be patient. I also found a fantastic deal on my sc, but it took time and effort. |

I've been pretty successful at a local level running little more than RCE Yellow springs on factory dampers. I finished the season ending autocross event with a 1st in STX and 3rd on PAX out of 97 entries. At this point my driving skills need far more tuning than the suspension does. I feel RCE Tarmac springs+Konis+camber bolts+front sway bar would be a awesome daily driver/autocross setup for well under $1500!
For a sub $1500 coilover package, I think the Feal 441s offer a good value and have shown great results from national caliber competition. Last edited by fstlane; 02-20-2014 at 12:18 AM. |

@fstlane thank you for your input I think I'm going to go with that route of Komi yellows and RCE springs.

Does anyone cosign the Bilstein B14s for budget autocross/daily? I heard on previous platforms the B16s don't really offer superior damping than the B14 rather just more adjustability.

How involved is modding the front shocks for the koni inserts? Where would I find some blown fronts aside from the classifieds???

Why not keep the OEM springs and just get a better set of dampers down the road and stay in stock class? Ex) Koni Yellows or Bilsteins. What width of wheels did you get? Are they over 7" if so then you will be in STX anyway...
