Slow shifting?

Hey guys. Lately I've been having issues with my BRZ. I'm currently at almost 6,000 miles with her and these past few days I noticed shifting is, I guess slow. Scenario: I'm on the on ramp, 1st gear and as I enter the freeway I enter second gear. It shifts normally and as I gain speed I enter third. I clutch in, shift to third then clutch out/gas in. Sometimes, it acts as if I am still on neutral so I clutch back in and push it up to third. Then it works. Sometimes, all I have to do is clutch back in and out and it'll shift to third. No grinding sound at all when it happens. Its starting to become a concern since it happens a lot more often now. It sometimes happens when I granny shift as well, mostly on third gear, sometimes fifth. Anyone else having issues similar to this?

Have you had a transmission fluid change yet?

Take it to your dealer and have them diagnose the problem. You may need a new transmission.

You need to be very deliberate with this gearbox, it may feel borderline abusive coming from something a bit looser with less resistance. There's noticeably two positions when going into third, kind of a partially engaged and then it slides firmly into the proper position. It's really easy to feel when you're sitting at a stop light.

I'd guess that you're being very light and not always getting it all the way to the fully engaged position. If it feels uncomfortable go to the dealer, the worst they can say is 'oh that's "normal" must be operator error'.

Nope I originally planned to around 3k when the problem started arising.

Thanks. I do plan on bringing it to the dealer I bought it from either around 7k for my second oil change or soon if it gets worse. As far as I can recall, I am pushing it all the way to third with quite a bit of force. May have to try again later on today.

You should definitely do that. I don't know how Subaru is about it but at 5000 miles I get a free fluid change from Toyota, so I'm going in for that in about a week.

I'll look into that. When I got my subie, I got the 2year/24k maintenance. Thought it only covered oil changes.
