The car has always been maintained and always taken care of. The posts Diablo Subaru printed out for me were posts of me asking about camber and suspension setups, never about intense modifications or track experiences. My advice is to be careful about what you post and know that Subaru and their dealer network is Shady and will try to screw you. I will never buy another Subaru and I will advice others not to do so. I have owned many different car brands, [Honda, BMW, infiniti, Nissan, Toyota, Lexus, Volvo, MB, etc] Never had been treated so badly at a dealership, I feel taken advantage of, I feel lied to and betrayed, I feel violated. The service guy I dropped the car off with was talking to me about how he has a Spec Miata, and is trying to get a Z06 to take to the track and how he's into modding cars as well and he is the one who did this to me. It's insane how another car enthusiast will do this. All of my old service guys at other dealerships have been great, very nice and accommodating and when a problem with my car was directly from a modified part I would just pay them a small fee for the trouble and they would help me out with fixing the problem. Sorry if this is kinda long I just think my "last" post here should explain everything and also say goodbye.
I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience... this is my first Subaru and, frankly, I wouldn't take it from any car manufacturer lying down like this.

I really think you should explore your options with other dealers or service centers, and (if denied warranty) escalate your issue/claim with Subaru of America. To be honest, having your warranty denied (or threat of denial) based on cosmetic mods is against the law and very much a violation of what your warranty provides you (the consumer).

If I were you, I'd get SEMA involved on this case. Someone has to put these shady dealer networks in their right place, and SEMA loves to help consumers out because this type of action (whether it be by the manufacturer or dealer) makes enthusiasts look bad as a whole.

Good luck.

My dealership has my email.. A quick google search of my email, shows every forum I've used that email to register, along with my Facebook, flicker, photobucket, Instagram and so on and so on.. Along with this forum, I have clubxterra, gixxer.com, volksrod, some RC car forums, a Harley forum and about 10 different gun and carry forums.. I never thought about the link until now.. It doesn't really bother me.. I'm a ASE tech and I know how to talk to a SM.. Work is work.. A SM will take work they can get instead of sitting around doing gravy services.. Hell our dealership was going to warranty a turbo FRS that blew the engine until a jealous **** sent pictures to the regional rep.. Caused a lot of issues for the dealership.. So if you use your regular email, then you'll be linked too.. Google yourselfs from time to time, you'll be surprised what you might find

Diablo Subaru sucks. I mean it.
I actually wanted a brz than a frs at first, so I went to them.
I asked the price for a white brz and one of the salesman said $31,XXX.
Then I said that's too expensive, the car's MSRP is $25,XXX, I'm not buying it unless it's around $27,000.
Then that asshole just yelled "Then don't buy one!"
He then spent 20 mins BSing about that's the market price, because there's not enough brzs for everyone. Subaru is selling too many cars blah blah blah.
I don't know if it's just them or all the Subaru dealers. I feel like they are acting their brand is so high class and popular that the demand is so high, that you need to bow to them for begging one and paying a lot more for some non-sense BS.
I know there's nothing to do with your issue but I just want to point out they really sucks.
Maybe you can try to find another dealers, I did hear that some of them aren't that bad.

My subaru dealer in Seattle even covered things AFTER the warranty expired and I had mods (intake + headers + exhaust) on my 2002. It was one of the reasons when I needed a new car the first thing I looked at were subarus. So far haven't had anything on my BRZ needing warranty here in Texas but I hear bad stories from other owners in the area.

Some of the links to the FTC.gov site are old, so anyone looking for the direct answer to this question (from the gov), you can find it here:

My local Subaru dealership didn't give a crap about my exhaust modifications, and actually the service rep made conversation with me about how an ECU tune would bring out the most of the mods.

When I brought up that a tune would void the warranty, he responded with "Oh, it's okay...we don't care. "

PS--sometimes I am REALLY happy I didn't get a BRZ. I think they look KILLER, but Subaru seems to be a joke when it comes to a warranty....or honoring it. I was told by my dealer that if I mod the car, it will only void, THAT PART. I lowered the car, no more shock replacement, etc. They have encouraged me to beat on it and enjoy it and bring it in if there are any issues that came up.
0_0 I'm in SD what dealership do you go too?? I'm kinda starting to dislike mine due to how they treated me over some dents and the way they treated a fellow FRS owner.
Feel free to PM me since dealers are spying on us now i guess.

I don't mind posting here The only thing I have done to void my warranty is the lowering springs. The car is stock other than that, so the dealers can spy all they want. Most of my experiences have been with Mossy Toyota in PB. I wouldn't personally suggest going there as their techs have horrible attitudes (I actually had one argue with me when I had a question) and their service department representatives think that as long as it works, it doesn't matter how crappy the job is. That being said, the owner of the dealership is AWESOME! It sucks that I had to end up going through him to get work done, but he stepped up and got it done. I just with his service department was as amazing as he is.

Sorry, long story, but that's my experience so far. I do all my own fluid changes and my own work on the car and I avoid the dealer like the plague. I know that there is a member here that is a service manager at Toyota in Carlsbad, so that might be worth looking into. If you are not already on the Socal SD 86 Club Facebook page, I would get on that. He is a member there as well.

Diablo Subaru is the worst, just look at their Yelp page. There are so many better dealerships in the area, why would you even bother with them?

Last time I went in there to test drive a car the salesman actually tried to talk me out of it. What kind of ridiculous sales tactic is that?

fuck dealers, they wanted to argue with me about replacing both leaking taillights. 1 had water present the other had water stains in it. They tried to refuse replacing the one with no water but stains, but when I put up a fight and they "contacted corporate" guess what I had 2 bran new lights installed.

Besides that they didn't want to fix my GPS. I showed them a video on my laptop to prove it was broken. They said I had to send them a copy of the video to fix it. I never sent them a copy and they still got the parts and fixed it.

I really don't understand the fight against easy warranty work...

Fuck stealers...

I will say that not all Subaru dealerships are this way. My BRZ has been in two different dealerships. One is more of a grandma dealership selling mostly N/A AWD Subaru's. They will only have 1 or 2 WRX's on the lot, never seen a STi, and had one BRZ when they first hit the lots. The other is where I bought the car and just a bit too far away. They also gave me vague answers, but have since heard about the problems some people have had with them.

The next time my car goes to a dealer for a check up it will be to a dealer who has an awesome reputation, and knows what heavily modified is as they run a WRX track car with their name all over it.
