Yeh thats stupid your rearview is to see behind you and sideview are to see the SIDE where you cant see because of pillars and such...if you wanted to see the side of the car get out and look at it.

You must have some bigger window then everyone else, and the ability to whip your head around easily. Id much rather position the mirrors how they are supposed to be, glance at a mirror where I still have the ability to see whats in front of me mind you. Your taking your eyes completely off the road to look in your blind spot (maybe) meanwhile a motorcycle from the left could be swinging into your lane, you didnt see it happen and boom goes the dynamite...just something I was taught, that makes sense. The diagram on the previous page explains this whole thing.

When I first got the car, I almost.... almost changed lanes into another car a couple of different times. Then I adjusted outside mirrors like so.

Get on a straight road with two lanes in the same direction. While in the left lane, adjust the right mirror so the white stripe on the right side of the right lane runs to the lower right corner of the right mirror. While in the right lane, adjust the left mirror so the white stripe on the left side of the left lane runs to the lower left corner of the left mirror.

You will be able to see any vehicle of any size on either side of you appear in the mirror while still being well behind you and it will remain in view until it is beside you. No need to twist your head beyond 90 degrees. Glance in the mirror, turn to the side, glance in the mirror. If you don't see a vehicle, it is not there.

Since this adjustment, I have had no surprises.

I have the Rexspeed wide blue mirror. I got them because the tinting helps a lot with getting blinded at night; pickup trucks with "HID style" bulbs seems to be popular in my area. The wide angle has been a nice addition.

They seem like a good add on, but I feel like the blue tint just goes badly with the car unless you have the ultramarine version.

I've sat in a car with this type of rearview and I was not a fan. Get a much better view with my 400mm Broadway convex

I see how that would be bothersome. I don't care, personally, but that's because I get blinded daily. I'm looking into rear view options. I keep it up now, but I'm not happy with that solution.

Broadway also makes blue tinted rearview mirrors

It works, too. Saved me a couple of times already. Maybe not as effective as that, but it's free (and legal) lol
I was going to say the same thing. Adjusted just to the point where you can't see your own car without leaning slightly left, you see MUCH more of your blind spot, and can still just move your head an inch if you need to make sure you're not scraping something when pulling in/out.
