Why do NEW Honda Civics look different from US to UK?

Also, I posted the URL for the Diesel Civic since we don't have an equivalent in the States, which truthfully pisses me off; just look at the MPG(!). There has to be some sort of "CABAL" in the US that is always trying to keep Car Manufacturers from bringing their versions of Diesel Products to our shores, beyond VW and a few others like Audi, Porsche and a few others I'm unawares of. However that discussion is for a different forum posting.

What does everyone think of the different offerings? It's not because I'm from the USA, I consider myself more of a "World Citizen". But I do like the American Styling better.

Because they don't import the hatchback version. Which sucks. I guess it's because the ep3 didn't sell well? Honda uses their coupe and sedan for the SI models now. Probably just a way to cut costs. They don't even sell civics in japan, be thankful we still have some

I actually noticed that the other day looking at the Honda Japan site. Why the hell don't they sell Civics anymore? Seems bizarre to me. I know the Fit and N-Box are very popular there, though. Hell, I wish we got K-cars over here.

They didn't sell well enough. The prius is the most sold car in japan last time I checked - their car culture isn't what it used to be.

I thought the EP3 was really popular. We had one my wife got into a head-on collision in at around 55mph (Jeep turned left in front of her at a light). Not a single bone broken and the car completely crumpled the front left corner. There were crumples along the side and above the hatch from the impact.

Considering the EP3s still list on auto trader from 10k up to what they were sold NEW, I'd say they're still pretty popular. Best of all they were ridiculously easy to work on. Tons of room in the engine bay once you replace the gigantic stock airbox.

Seems like they're replacing it with cars like the CR-Z and Fit.

Enthusiast ......no comparisons. But it is true that Japanese Car Culture has changed, together with Economy.

They basically need...

1/Roomy, yet smaller vehicle to park, and store

2/Light, yet fuel efficient, still safe for the whole family

3/With both 1+2 comes the most important one. Price...it gotta be affordable.

4/It gotta be also Affordable to fix, and maintain if things happen.

The street racing, and all that good and fast car or gas guzzlers are all aimed for the enthusiasts, and those enthusiasts have time and lot of money. Therefore, Japan also have open tracks, and park for people to play, race in....

I am surprised as of why The American is still with those Muscle + Big + yet tiny inside + Gas guzzler + Powerful + Metal caged.......and driving 60MPH at speed limit. Can someone enlighten me ?

Why do American buy FAST + FURIOUS Vehicles, but still driving 60 MPH. Also....all the troubles to get in a little fun in the track ? ? What is worse....If you FLoor your Pedal to get to the Speed limit FAST...you still gonna be TICKETED.

You go to a drag strip, that's what they do.

Have you ever been to Ohio? Wait, you live there. You know how some local roads are just miles of straight road? Yeah, that's where full throttle is nice.

You can't beat on American car culture, it's been the same since the 40's.

I totally agree with the Fast and Furious bit, that is why there are so many molested 4 Cylinder Honda's and Toyota's. Especially the older these cars get. Honestly we won't see the revolution of spotless rebuilt cars like we have with the old 60s and early 70s Muscle before the oil embargo screwed everything up. Talking about cutting BHP in half due to all the emissions and the CAFE requirements. We've come a long way since then even with all the emissions crap. Thank god for 100 cell cats.

...and most americans dont drive 60 on the highways, interstates and freeways. Within the cities it is 65mph. Depending on where you are the limit can be anywhere between 65mph to literally over 75mph.

In Bakersfield there are roads where the limit is 50mph. But there is a lot of space and distance between lights in the boondock parts of town.

The Civic not being sold in Japan says more about Honda's mind set than the JDM market.

Problem is the current EU and US Civic's are too wide for the JDM tax bracket, that would mean Honda would have to make a JDM specific Civic. And these days Honda and also Nissan rather ignore the JDM market that make cars catered to the taste of the Japanese.

Thats why i just keep getting more and more respect for Toyota these days, since Akio took over they actually put in time to develop cars that are really Japanese at heart and philosophy.

An example is the new IS vs the Skyline/Q50, the latter is a joke. Engine mooched of Mercedes and styling that looks more like a Buick that a Japanese car. No wonder it has been the laughing stock on all Japanese blog for months!

I had a mint ep3, and I sold it three years ago for 6400$. Not very easy to sell here lol. I loved the car though, sounded like a beast for 160hp.

This car was quite a laughing stock too when it came out, "the new honda odyssey"

The Toyota Corolla UK vs NA differ too, with an almost identical interior. I think it comes down to where they are manufactured. The NA Civic is produced in Indiana and another plant in Canada. Whereas the UK Civic is produced is the Swindon, UK. They are building a car more specific to their market.
