Would have been a blessing, but; "Please note that the TWM Performance Shift Boot Retainer only fits with TWM Performance Shift Knobs."

Their knobs for "our" cars generally cost $125 minimum for their cheapest finish. Then its another $25 for the insert. This knob/insert combination is more costly than what I did for myself.

This I will entertain for anyone willing to purchase this part. However, as a reminder, I designed this part exclusively for this knob from Blox Racing. So, if this is the knob you want to buy then this insert will work. But remember, you have to drill out the M12 threads with a 5/8" drill starting with a 9/16" drill minimum to start with. It's best to step-up the hole rather than trying to drill the size you need straight up. Also, you'll have to use rubber between the knob and the vice to hold the knob securely enough so that you can drill slowly and patiently into the knob without it spinning or damaging the finish.

At the moment this insert requires the drilling into the knob and epoxy to fix the insert in place. However, I have been thinking about an insert that simply screws into place with the existing threads in the knob. However, I do not like the idea of an M10 threaded hole within an M12 threaded stud. as I mentioned earlier there will not be much of a wall between the threads. I could see this breaking very easily particularly during manufacturing. The "drill out knob and epoxy insert in place" solution was the best solution.

Anyway, if their are any takers for this insert let me know. If I was to get an order of at least 15 I bet the price from the guy I used can come down. Then when they are finished I can mail the parts to everyone. However, the part would be as I designed it; to be epoxied in place.

Will this modification work with any shift knob (Flossy, WC Lathe Werks, etc)?

This modification is basically only for this Blox FR-S knob. However, variations can be made for other knobs. All you have to do is make your measurements and design what you need to make what you want work for you.

For example, this Blox knob had a counter bore to the M12x1.25 tapped hole. So, I designed a part that would insert into the knob using the counter bore as the main centering entity and simply drilled out the M12X1.25 tap. The pictures I provided demonstrate what I did more or less. Some other knobs only have a tapped hole with no counter bore. This now becomes a bit more complicated. One thing you can do is come up with an add-on part that screws into the thread, but the new part would have to be at least 1-3/8" long (not including the M12X1.25 threaded portion) to provide you a small counter bored hole and the M10X1.25 tap you will need to mount that knob. Plus, you will have to provide the undercut portion that hooks the boot to the knob like with what I did for my design. Your knob would be effectively "taller" than stock. I could have done something similar, but I didn't want my knob to be taller than the stock knob. However, I may design a new insert/adapter and get a new knob just to try it out. This way the knob need not be modified and no epoxy would need to be used. Just screw in the adapter for use with your FR-S AT. Don't for get to use some 242 lock tight between adapter and knob.

Hey Nikola, I've read through this thread and wanted to ask, would any of these work to convert a manual shift knob to work on an automatic? I know you said something about hooking the boot, but it seems a few people have used these and it worked.

JR, I don't see why these wouldn't work. But they will not have a hook for the boot. I suppose the boot could be somewhat stuffed into the rather large counter bore of the knob. However, no guarantee that it won't slip loose.

Thanks a lot for the response, it does help!

Damn, I wish I knew someone who could make a hook for the boot like yours. Seriously, your's is absolutely perfect. My Ultramarine FR-S would smile just like your car. Hah.

Strange question, but could I pay you to have your guy make one for me as well? The Blox shift knobs are outstanding, judging from the pictures I see around the forum.

Yeah, I'll second that. I would buy a blox shift knob and use your adapter if I could get my hands on one.

I don't see why not. I'd have to talk to him and see if he has free time. If I don't get back to you with information drop me a line.
