sounds like you maybe trying testing out if you were filing separately single rather as jointly. In that case yes you would owe more filing separate. What I'm talking about is on your W-4 you claim single so you are taxed on the higher tax table. You still would file a joint return though. When you do your actual taxes, there is no where on there that you enter in what you actually claimed on your W-4.
