See the TSB "S-SB-0040-13-RPM Drop.pdf" on the official TSB list, it should be the last attachment. That should get you the flash that has been identified here as Toyobaru's fix. There are posters (CSG Mike most notably) that claim this doesn't fix the issue.

I did see that thread. A dam shame how that happened. Good luck getting it taken care of.

I was finally able to acquire the "fix". I'm going to resume tracking this car with my fingers crossed that this really is the fix. Got a track day @T'hill lined up for Feb 7.

does it affect cars with a custom tune (ECUtek, BRZedit etc..)? I keep reading that if you reset the ECU, it should be fine or something.

From these poll #s, it bears out that this issue is an anomaly, likely brought on from ECU manipulation. I think issues can be expected with any new platform until the ECU parameters in question are established. If you don't want to be a tuning R&D guinea pig, wait.

I have no modifications to my ecu or anything but I from time to time get a backfire that sounds like it's coming from the engine, a loud pop only during startup.

Any idea if I should bring this up to a dealer or just let it ride until I have a real repeatable issue? I'm afraid to add anything to my engine beyond a panel filter to avoid getting fucked on my warrantee.

Also experiencing this with under 500 miles on the car. When it's really cold outside the engine misses at idle and pops, sounds almost like the cylinder is firing way before TDC, kind of violent. If I rev the engine to increase idle speed to about 1500rpms the misfire/popping goes away.

I don't live close to a Scion dealership, closest one is 100 miles away. Unfortunately the Toyota dealership less than 5 miles down the road from me (No Scion) won't do warranty work on a Scion vehicle.

I get the same thing.. it does sound and feel like its lighting off before TDC.
only happens a few time and then runs smooth.. it been mentioned that
the cat might affect this somehow.. but for this car.. its seems to be normal.

It's been drama free since I acquired it. Really the only difference I feel is that I'm more confident in revving the engine again.

The fact that I don't really notice a difference is what I suppose you are really after w/ a factory reflash so

I wonder why Subaru still doesn't have the TSB for the RPM drop.

I get the startup noise as well, got it very early in ownership. There are a few threads on it, like this:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43408

Seems "normal" in that it seems a lot of people get it, but certainly not all (??). I don't notice any other odd noises at other times/conditions (high load, revving it out, shifts), only during startup, and once the engine gets some load (backing out of parking spot) or if I blip the throttle just a little it seems to go away.
