Evo X vs 14 or 15 STI ...Helps

The time has come. I heard that the Scion Boss confirmed that the talk about any changes on the 86 will not happen until 2015, which means the MY 2016 will carry the Changes it needs, power ? Price ? Whatever that is, that means it will be the 2nd Gen 86.

I am done waiting around for ToyaSuba Faila to upgrade the 86, and as a family man, I am honestly looking toward these two main competitors.

For a bit I was looking into Golf R...but hey...I dont want an unreliable one.

Since when are these competitors to the FRS? They're way more expensive first of all, and they're also 4/5 doors with AWD...

That being said I think you should get a Focus ST.

Uhm...honestly, they are ways different than the 86. I have my reasons to Xshop them. I love the 86 because of the nice look, and cheaper, still fun....but they are ways weak in power.

I assure you that I am not the only one.

That said I too may not have the patience to wait until MY 2016 if in fact they delay the desperately needed power boost that long. But many of the alternatives out there while they have a lot of positives also come with big drawbacks (YMMV):

Fiesta ST - WWD, jellybean-on-stilts look
WRX/Evo/Sti - too big and heavy, don't need the back seats
M235i - heavy, BMW repair bills can be staggering
Golf VII R - boxy look, reliability a question mark
upcoming ND Miata - a bit too slow and small? No true coupe version
current Z car - fugly, crude Japanese muscle car

If Kia engineers it properly their upcoming coupe (concept shown in Detroit) looks promising - the power the twins should offer in a similar package.

IMO between the current gen STI vs. Evo X, go with the Evo X unless you must have a hatch. I used to own an STI and later got a chance to drive the Evo X GSR. It is much, much sharper. If you don't need the practicality of a hatch, it's the route I would go.

Future STI vs. future Evo, who the heck knows.

What I mean about 015 STI is that the STI has stiffer suspensions by 40% and Brake Vectoring.

I heard that was the main complains about the 2014 STI. Pluser suspensions, and body roll, with less precision. The Evo X however is very precise, that I have been watching top gears , and all that for the fact. What I am afraid most is that 14 is last of EVO X. 15 STI is the first of them all.

I don't want to get a 14 X and regret not getting the 15 STI lol as Older vs Newer.

Do you guys think with the 40% stiffer suspensions and Brake Vectoring, finally the STI will handle as well as the X ? Anybody have the current STI with After market suspensions can give me inputs ? please ?

I'm looking at these from afar - repair not an issue while it's in the warranty period; while it IS 3400lbs and that isn't "light" since it DOES have a 315hp/330tq turbo 6 that will make power with some ease. 30 more CHP and you're at 10lbs/hp. In short, I think you *may* be overstating the weight a bit.

That said, it's $43K base without the LSD and I doubt you'll be able get one for less than $49K OTD. Even more if you want other options.

If you assume for the 2015 STI:

- The old STI's spring and damping rates are stiffened generally, and proportionally more in the rear;

- The old STI's rear sway rate is stiffened;

- Active yaw control is implemented on the rear differential;

- Better tires are fitted (the stock Dunlops on the GR STIs sucked in comparison to the Evo X Yokos);

- A much quicker, more communicative steering rack is added; and

- The pistons on the EJ257 are strengthened or the FA20T engine is used.

Then yes, I think it would be worth waiting for the new STI vs. the current Evo X. Obviously Subaru won't be working off the old GR chassis, but philosophically I think this is the direction they would need to go with the new STI to beat the Evo X.

My advice would be to wait for the new STI. If it turns out to be disappointing, you can always find a used Evo X on the market.
