Short block replaced under warranty, will my resale value drop?

Had a failure on cylinder 3 rod bearing. Toyota warrantied out my short block.

Will this impact resale? I have been wanting to sell it but unsure now of the type of hit I'm going to take. I know if I looked at a carfax and saw that it had major engine issues I would be iffy.

It should show up on a Carfax report so yes, it could impact resale. It really depends on the buyer, but some people may choose to stay away from a car that has a rebuilt or replaced engine on a newer car.

No, as long as the dealer did it and you have paper work saying why it was under warranty it does not effect the resale.

I would stay away from that car if I was a buyer. I hate to say it, I should not, but it might

I agree with jflogerzi, me personally I would not buy a car with any kind of warranty problems when I could find another car that would have no warranty problems.
To me its not worth the chance even if the price was right.

I kind of look at it as the previous owner cared enough to get his car repaired under warranty. It's the car with no service records or warranty issues that were beat up more often.

Why should it drop the resale value?

If the shortblock was not replaced, would you expect the resale value to be higher on a broken car??

Yes it will. I sold a Honda Odyssey that had to have the cluster replaced (which reset the odometer) and even though I had all the paperwork from honda and it was a dealer repair people still became uninterested when I told them.

The guy I end up selling to was thorough and said he called Honda and they said if he brought the car in they could look up the repair. And when he test drove the car he stopped by his mechanic to look it over. But most buyers don't want to put in the time for things like that and rather see a "ZOMGPP Carfax 1 owner never wrecked dealer service record" car instead of taking 5 minutes to look into it.

Agreed. Sadly, I would probably walk away too :/

While true major engine work would be enough to scare me away. I would be saying to myself if it already had major engine work what else is hiding ready to go wrong.

To be honest, this isn't the type of car that would have a very good resale value. Though, like other forum members have stated, any major engine work tends to give the buyer a negative taste. However, to a enthusiast this could be beneficial since the dealership and corporate was able to fix a problem on the engine that could have happened outside of the warranty.

Honestly, this can go both ways. If you want to sell your car and try to make more money back I'd sell it to a FT86 enthusiast. Even though I have a blown engine I still love my car hahaha Best of luck

Actually it turns out there is a guy that wants to take it for a test drive this weekend. He seemed to know quite a bit about them. He is aware of all the work that was done. So crossing fingers.

SHORT BLOCLK REPALCEMENT HAS NO AFFECT ON YOUR RESALE VALUE! When you change your brakes will that affect your resale? Answer is no! I work for Toyota for past 7 years and I have never heard this!
Its not a accident! It's a warranty repair. We all have warranties that need to be done. Recalls or repairs under warranty don't affect retail value nor should they. I own a R-35 GTR and just have a $32,000 tranny replaced under warranty. If anything the new owner will love having a new updated transmission if I sold it...
