Anyone had their shift knob replaced under warranty?

My OEM shift knob is pretty loose. I can't tighten it more because the center spindle pushes the cap off. Thread lock compound isn't working. Anyone gotten a warranty replacement?

If you've tried blue Loctite (don't use red) and it doesn't work, take it in as a warranty problem.

I had the same problem, but I rotated the knob a bit and it came down. It doesn't bother me the stitching doesn't line up, and I was going to replace it with an aftermarket piece anyway.

I had the same issue...I switched the stock knob out when I put it back on, I tightened it too much and the top popped off!

If I loosen the shift knob so the top fits, the knob is too loose and moves when I shift. If I tighten the knob, the top doesn't fully clip in, and sits loosely on top like this:

so...I just grabbed a pair of snips and cut the end off. Now the top doesn't clip into the knob, it just sits on top. Then I used a dab of super glue to stick it together.

Now my knob is tight and the lid fits. Total cost: $0

Something else to consider is that some people driving a manual, that haven't had a lot of experience, might tend to grip the knob when shifting and this will cause it to move around. Try learning to not grip the knob. Instead, push it forward with the heel of your hand and when pulling it towards you, just use your fingers to pull it without grasping the knob. It might sound simple but the one time I found my knob really twisted out of shape was after a tech road tested my car for the rattle coming from the package shelf. It was obvious he was a 'gripper'. That was several weeks ago. I straightened it out and haven't had to adjust it since.

I have the same issue. I loosened the knob the first time I tried to get into reverse. Dealer didn't tell me about the reverse lock out - took me awhile to figure it out. Anyway, when I tightened the knob back down, the button popped up a bit. Thanks for the fix instructions.

I have had my knob replaced as a "one time courtesy" by the dealer. It still didn't correct the issue, they've had to apply Toyota approved adhesive. The issue was corrected for a few months, and now it's back.

This. Loctite is meant to hold tightened fasteners together, it doesn't make a loose fitting tighter. Teflon tape will tighten it up (don't be afraid to use quite a few layers as the tape is very thin)

Yeah, the ol' throttle-knob/gas pedal delete mod is really popular in several areas of the Andromeda Galaxy, and therefore normal. Shame on you for wasting those good peoples' time.
