Because people like to stick things that need charging back there. Or, a nice place to stick a power adapter for a window-mounted nav device.

When I had my phone mounted to the windshield, I had the long cable charger plugged into the glove compartment 12v outlet and routed the cable down into the passenger footwell. It meant I didn't have that cable draped across the center console and get tangled with the e-brake and shifter.

It's a very smart place to put a 12v outlet. Same reason there's a 12v outlet in most cars' center consoles.

The size for the firewall plug has been posted. Why not the intake tube plug size?

Yup, or an air ionizer (like someone else here on the forum is using it for), or the power cable for a samsung "all share cast" wifi unit, or a garmin nav unit (the one I had in 2009 is better than the nav included with the BRZ... faster too, and doesn't have "vehicle is moving therefore you can't do jack squat" interlocks), or, or, or, or....

Basically anything you want to have powered and stay IN the car and not clutter up the center console, but don't want to permanently splice into the power system.

On another note, I feel like an idiot. Simple google search brought this up for intake-side sound tube delete: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=45

And this one if you want the dimensions.

First part is a firewall plug to stop water through the firewall and later part of first post has the intake-side cap dimensions he made.

This.

Two foam plugs rolled up tight plus the 12v cap from the glovebox: sweet, sweet attenuation.

Anyone know how closely that compares to removing the tube altogether?

Nominated for a Nobel Prize.

Car sounds much better.

I'm saving up for this and a K&N air filter. Safely deletes the sound and creates a smoother airflow. Another thing that I tried that work..
Use the 12V plug from the glove box, but shove 2 cotton ball inside it, then plug the firewall..

Did this

Did this mod today with the suggested caps. A BIG thank you to everyone that has posted in this DIY. This made such a huge sound difference in my car, I hated how loud the fake intake sound was before this mod.

I'm so confused? What annoying noise are you guys referring to?
I thought the cabin of our cars was pretty quiet. The only annoying noise I have is from the ridiculously loud N1 exhaust.

Completed this last night. Took all of 10 seconds. I ended up getting the Home Depot 7/8" Nylon Hole Plug @ .60 + tax

It didn't really make too much of a difference. I drive with my windows down though so yeah.

Btw, it's on the right side no matter what. Don't be like me and check the left - cuz the driver side is on the left for NA cars.. (duh)
