any time you use LED for blinkers, you will get hyper flash if you dont change your flasher relay due to the lower resistance of the LED bulbs.

Again, for referance, the white wire on the right side, red wire on the left side is your constant power to the sidemarker, no need to cut or splice this one, leave it be. Yet i digress.. locate your black wires on each side of the sidemarkers, and cut the black wires. Take your jumper wire you spliced to the red blinker signal wire from the parking lights, and connect them to the sidemarker side of the black wires you just cut. tape off the remaining black wire ends that are leading to the engine side. if you ever want to reverse this mod, just splice the 2 ends of the black wires back together, and remove the splice connection to your red blinker wires.

test and enjoy if something doesnt work, you either didnt make a good splice connection, or you ran your jumper to the end of the black wires that do not lead to the sidemarkers...

no hyper flash, no warning lights, blown fuses, just like the OP method above this flashes and looks stock, the way the fr-s/brz should have come.


1. Parking lights on, the side marker will stay on and alternate with the front blinkers.

2. Headlights on, same as #1.

3. All lights off, the side marker will not be on but will blink in sync with the front blinkers.

Will this work the same way with front switchbacks and the correct non hyperflash relay under the dash ?

the marker flashes perfectly but the front turn signal doesn't (white led isn't on as well when headlight is on). I already had flasher relay when I changed my bulbs to led.

this guy has his led marker and switch back turn signal but he had to make a new circuit for the side marker.

i dont use LED bulbs or switchbacks for my blinkers, so i cannot say.

So, did it your way last night to my BRZ while replacing my markers with Clear JDMs with Amber LEDs. Result: Markers blink in sync with front/rear blinkers... but do not ever stay lit, they are only on when blinking even when headlights are on, and, in fact, when the parking light is switched on the stock they don't do anything, no blinking and no constant light. So, essentially this mod turns the side markers into just blinkers for the auto and full on positions (and probably off but didn't test), but do nothing in the parking light position.

This is for the Limited BRZ mind you and while I don't really care about the side markers being on (I much prefer them as blinkers), I wonder why it turned out this way.

Would keeping the original black wire to side markers connected allow them to stay on? I'm guessing it has to be something to do with a broken circuit and the fact that the BRZ front blinkers only blink and are not on with parking lights?

Sounds like I'll encounter the same issue with my limited. Too many drinks into the evening to figure it out at the moment but perhaps we need a setup with some diodes for BRZs.

For the BRZ/ Limited, you'll have to also cut the remaining wire coming from your sidemarkers, and run a second jumper from the "parking light constant", that way they will function as blinkers and markers. The BRZ limited wiring would be slightly different from the FR-s, but just trace down which wire is the "blink" wire, and which is the "parking light constant" from the BRZ headlamp&blinker assy.
The BRZ limited version of this mod would be similar to the OP's guide. Basically Identify your parking light constant power wire & your blinker "blink" power wire, and connect them to your 2 wires coming from the sidemarkers. I'd recommend using a multimeter or a test light, to verify the wires if you have a BRZ or BRZ Limited. The same would hold true if you have a 10 or monogram, the standard FR-S wiring is what the OP's Guide and my revision are based on.

Also i should note -and will amend my original post - I haven't tested this with LED bulbs, only incandescent.

In the BRZ Limited I think that green parking light wire power the boomerang LED lights around the HIDs, because they come on when you put the parking lights on. I've already done the Boomerang DRL mod, so I guess I just need to splice on an extra wire before the diode. I'll test before soldering and post results this weekend.

Might try it after work today just to wrap things up, I wish I hadn't painted on liquid tape over my DRL connection already, I could've just soldered onto what I already did... time to bring out the razor blade and cut some of it off I guess

Ok, so I made the modification. I cut the other wire on the side markers (red on drivers white on the other) and ran a wire from there to the green wire going my Boomerang LED lights (which on the BRZ, act as the front parking lights). I also have the Boomerangs setup as Daytime Running Lights, so I have a wire running from the lower LEDs and a Diode hooked into the green wire. All I had to do was make the connection to the side markers BEFORE the diode, on the harness side, not the headlight side. At first, it didn't work and I was puzzled, but then I flipped my LEDs in the side markers around and the markers came on with the headlights and alternated, BUT there was still a problem, the blinkers wouldn't come on at all when the parking lights were off, meaning they wouldn't come on with the stock set to 'off' or 'auto' during daylight. So, I tried putting the regular bulbs back in and, sure enough, everything worked properly. So, it seems the amber LEDs I have an issue, I'm guessing it's some sort of polarity issue, can someone shed some light on this and are there any LEDs that may work like the standard bulbs, I'm sure LEDs that work flipped in either way will do nicely, does anyone know of any that will fit in our 168 socket?

Just for reference for any other BRZ owners:
You need a wire going from the red blinker wire to the black wire on your markers, and a wire going from the green wire hooked to your headlights (powering the boomerang) to the white/red power wire on your side markers. If you do or have done the DRL mod for your boomerangs make sure the diode is in between the splice to the marker and your headlight.

It says they are not polarity sensitive, so I suppose they would work like incandescents, but I'm just worried that they aren't bright enough, they say they only output 30 lumens, which seems fairly lower than your typical 5 LED marker, thoughts?
