Also notice the "place holder pricing" is not a copy and paste on the build pages from any other Subaru models on the site.

so.... this is a place holder, and we think that these prices are total bogus.

Is that pretty much the gist of it?

Of course the prices are bogus. Stop being thick people ;P

Here is the BRZ html from the 2nd link.

Quote:
<a class="oct_link_handrail" rel="BRZ~2013" href="/vehicles/brz/index.html"><img class="handrail-img" src="/content/images/my13/BRZ/handrail.png" /><br /><div align="center"><strong>BRZ</strong><br /><i>Starting at <strong>$30,595*</strong></i></div></a>
<ul class="handrail_hover hover7">
<li>
<div class="vehicle_card">
<h5>BRZ</h5>
<span class="clear"></span>
<p>Roomy interior, stylish exterior, the Tribeca offers the best of all worlds.</p>
<a href="/vehicles/brz/index.html"></a>
<div class="moreInfoLinkList">
<p><a href="/vehicles/tribeca/index.html">Learn More</a></p>
<p><a href="/shopping-tools/tribeca/request-quote.html">Request A Quote</a></p>
<p><a href="/vehicles/tribeca/premium/build.html">Build Your Own</a></p>
Its just the tribecca copied over with some editing. It's easier to code that way.

I don't think the build prices are bogus. I mean the top level pages have copy and paste prices from the Impreza and Tribeca. The build numbers are not the same as any other models on the site. Why don't they just copy and paste the prices from the build page on other models?

You know that is old information? Didn't we have a big debate about this like a week ago?

34/25 for AT
30/22 for MT

hey I got no problem with a prices like those, but it doesn't go with anything of the solid data we actually have on who they are targeting. Or the fact that they are trying to make this a limited available car. If it is great if it's not then meh.

I think you are overestimating the process a web developer goes through. Most likely he just chose something he thought was ballpark because he liked it there to look at, or some other reason, while he was coding. Also there are no cars with pricing that round.

Yeah, they clearly did change the $20,000 and $25,000 numbers. However, I think those are still just placeholder numbers because a) the real price wouldn't be such a nice whole number and b) the limited won't be 5k more than the premium unless they are insane. Those are just guesses some web developer came up with until they know the real pricing.

I'm a developer/architect by trade. I'll say with 95% certainty that you're viewing a developer's work that was accidentally published. I looked under the hood at the requests going back and forth and it's using a standard xml protocol to call an oracle back end. So they've got all the plumbing there. I'm sure that the back end is just test data (that's why it's 'proj4.boxer' in the url).

You're fine browsing it since it ends with subaru.com.

This is kinda a hackers dream though because they're given all sorts of information on their back end. Or well... their test server I'm sure. It's probably so that they could share with VPs for approval. The reason that you could find it in google even though they didn't publish it is because *someone* probably looked at it in Chrome. Chrome periodically sends back data to google. That's how they index web sites behind a login wall.

If this beer doesn't put me to sleep, I'm going to poke around a bit more.

JB

I agree but it's encouraging that the web developer thinks those are ballpark numbers. The question then is: How big is the ballpark?
