Clackamas Stereo King + 86 = Epic FAIL

I went to Stereo King at 9:45 a.m. to buy an Amp and having it installed to drive my custom subwoofer enclosure in the trunk.

So I gave them the keys and 3 hours later they tell me that they had a low signal issue and they were troubleshooting. An hour after that they tell me the car is ready and I pay the bill.

But seconds later the installer tells me that the speakers are producing a cracking noise and needs a $150 part to fix it.

Obviously I said this was not acceptable and that I wanted someone to draw out what they did. Sure enough they had not looked up any wiring or spec information on the FR-S and had no idea that there was a stock amp in the car.

This is ridiculous! A stereo shop that does installs every day and never looks at wiring diagrams or specs for a specific vehicle before working on it? This is absurd and I have freaking waisted 5 hrs of my day so far.

Stay the hell away from this place!

And BTW, I didn't go to Car Toys, because they wanted to up sell without even knowing what the car had for stock equipment.

I am still waiting for a resolution on site. They are trying to still tap the signal from the deck instead of stock amp input. They want to amplify it so they don't have to rewire the whole car again. So much for my shoot scouting trip today! Argh!

Stereo King on 82nd was notorious for shitty work, and they were rumored to steal stereo decks bought there and re-sell them in my high school days. I thought this was just a urban myth, 2 weeks later my deck gets stolen.

Sucks man..

I wish I would've known. I am so sad and extremely angry right now. No car yet and no communication either.

That sucks dude. They shouldn't have to rewire the entire car though. The stock amp only powers the two front 6" speakers in the doors and you can tap the signal wire back there for the sub.

And now we have a semi-happy ending! They wired it my way and it works great! But it took almost 7 hrs for a 1hr job.

I installed a System 400+ from OEM Audio Plus. It's a plug-and-play system. I would not let Stereo King or Car Toys mess with my car. I can't trust them.

how much amp's does the stock sound system in our cars have? I want a sub system, but wondering if a self amp'd sub is better than using the OEM amp, or add an amp.. I'm a stereo noob here.

I understand that the standard audio system for a 2013 FR-S has a 160 watt head unit and a 140 watt 2-channel amplifer.

@humfrz is correct! 140 Watts and it drives the "subs" on the doors. I had split at the input of the OEM amp with a 80w LineOut Converter to a Kenwood X500-1 and to the JBL I got from David when I got the springs :-)

I was trying to save some of my time by having someone else wire it so I could go on a freaking drive today. Totally back fired!
