Seriously. There are worse shoes to drive in than dress shoes...
Try it in snowboard boots.

I got off the mountain and was too tired to take the damn things off. Drove about 5 miles in those things and that was torture. No ankle movement makes shifting a bitch.

If you search Youtube with keywords like: Senna, NSX, Suzuka you should find a video where Senna wore dress loafer heel-toeing in a NSX with no problem. So apparently dress shoe and driving can mix well.

IMHO, the key point to consider when wearing dress shoes and driving is the material of the outsole. If it is the thin slippery leather or wood like material, it could be fairly slippery for driving. However, if the outsole is grippy rubber, it may not be so bad after all. The outsole from some of the shoes from Clarke's are hard rubber that is not grippy at all. It may not be the ideal solution to this problem.

To OP, I would suggest you to find the regular dress shoes but pay more attention on the material of outsole to find one that is comfortable and soft for you, but not too thick so that you lose the feeling from clutch.

I typically drive in whatever I have on, and I'm usually wearing Alden's to work. I do keep a pair of Puma driving shoes in the trunk, but I'm considering picking up some Tod's.

I had to wear business attire when I was part of the work force, retired now... TG !
I hated dress shoes.. They suck for comfort..
I got away with wearing black leather sneakers by NB. They were awesome.. They didn't have the Florsheim look or shine.. But they were comfortable and nobody challenged me on it..
There are much nicer comfy shoes out these days like Clark's. But I was grateful to have gotten away with those sneakers as business attire..

You pretty much beat me to this, so +1 for clearing things up.

Only thing most people should worry about when it pertains to combining dress shoes and driving is to look for a shoe that has breathable material and a thin outsole. Suede shoes or loafers are good options, imo. Leather isn't horrible, but it doesn't always give your feet the best breathe-ablility for comfort when you really getting into the thrill.

Note: A little grip wouldn't hurt, unless you're already used to the slick soles that most dress shoes obtain. So why fix what's not broken?

I'd also like to point out to find a shoe that has some cushion around the ankle. Most dress shoes are not forgiving in that department and can leave you blisters and you're gonna have a bad day.

Ex. STAY AWAY from something like this.

Hope that helps. Stay safe and have fun out there.

I have to wear steel toe boots at work. I just changes shoes at work, and drive to work in proper driving shoes.

I drive in these:

They are super comfy and the sole extends over the heel so it doesn't wear out.

Another vote for Vedanos and a number of similar Diesel shoes. That said, I spend 4/5 days of the week in Rockport dress shoes without issue.

I used to do the same, but I no longer have to wear steal toe boots anymore.

I don't know about you, but I actually like the extra weight though. More excuse to say I have a lead foot.

I can drive fine in my bostonian imperials, but after a long day of wearing them, clutch work hurts like a mofo (short stints are fine, though).

For when I have to go with the business professional look (slacks & a button down), my loafers are what I go to. Great for driving, too. Good heel padding, thick insole, and good grippy outsole that still flexes well.

Got them at Nordstrom's. Was really the only pair of loafers they had that I liked that wasn't more than a set of XXR wheels. They cost me $150. I bet I could have gotten a better deal at men's warehouse. But they're well worth it.
