Yeah that is why I went with my FRS for only $25k. I wanted to have that extra $3-5k I would have spent on dealership upgrade - but instead use on aftermarket upgrades since aftermarket is typically better, especially when it comes to NAV, audio, etc. PLUS I hold the belief that there is more likely to go wrong when you have too many gadgets and tech stuff. Simple = better.

Everyone wants to have extra bells and whistles on their car, why not factory quality that was designed for the car. If everyone went for the base model, then there would be no WRX or STI version of the Impreze, or An Evo or MR version of the Lancer. Same thing with other Brands. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the base the model and the upgrade versions too, and i see the value in going for the normal version, but everyone likes to upgrade whether it better lights, seats, or performance on their car or sprinkles and fudge on their Ice cream... it helps to have options.

Depends on how your theory of cars should be. Do you want the "base" model with all your own upgrades, or do you want the most upgrades as delivered?
I fall in the latter category - I'll take a cheaper car fully equipped with all available stock upgrades anyday over a luxury model that has all those standard. My Impreza Sport Limited ended up costing almost as much as my BRZ Limited because I equipped it with nearly max options from the factory - but when compared to the "base" model on visual approach and the seating/entertainment experience of mine vs. the base impreza is a very different experience. It just depends on your bias, and hell, it's your dime. Why grouse about how much other people are paying if they want it? Shawn |

And anyone who's done the math knows that it costs a lot more than 3k to get the frs to where the brz is at in terms of bells and whistles. Either way, people like options and OP is obviously one of the people that want the lightest possible configuration for the car. Nothing wrong with that, and they'd probably get the RC trim if we got it here. Personally I prefer having all the bells and whistles like the push start and heated seats as this is my only car and they just make the car easier to live with.

I went for a brz because the subaru badge is a flat rounded design making it more aerodynamic / faster. Scion and toyota badge is nice but has too many lines and openings. Unnecessary down force. Thats the only reason why I spend the extra dough. Leather, navi and other goods don't care for.

Well I actually didn't contradict myself - because I haven't spent any money on those upgrades. What I meant is that I left myself room to do so if and when I choose to. I just didn't word it well and I didn't include that small detail. My apologies :P

At least Toyobaru doesn't charge extra for FEWER options. Look at the Cayman R. Less weight means no options that most models come standard with ... and you pay MORE for less. I understand that the Cayman R is track focused, but it does get ridiculous with the pricing.
