I paid 60 grand for my frs so that I have a French au pair in a skimpy maid outfit providing maintenance from the passenger seat, yes it was a dealer option, you jelly bro?

I would have bought this car without these items and happily paid as much.

-AC
-Power steering (I would pay extra for a manual steering rack like my Mk1 MR2s)
-Radio
-Back seats
-Power Mirrors, Windows
-Passenger side mirror
-ABS, Stabilty Cont. etc
Are you like me, as in you miss the "Feel of the AW-11"?

I know I really miss my 2 Dueces.

The BRZ/FR-S comes pretty close.

I am glad to just have a reliable and warrantied car.

But I get sad every time I see an old MR2.

@OP: I don't get it either.

First and foremost, I wanted a "minimalist" driving experience and because of that, the base model FRS appealed to me the most. I also find the FRS to be more aesthetically pleasing than the BRZ.

I'm also a little paranoid (not quite to tin-foil hat level...yet) about big brother watching my every move, so I will never purchase a car that has a built-in navigation system in it. Also, when I purchased my FRS, there was another on the lot that had 1 upgrade: GPS. It added a whopping $4000 to the price tag. That dealership was on crack.

Fewer options = fewer things that could go wrong with the car.

Ultimately, I didn't want the upgrades and I voted with my wallet.

I don't understand why anyone would buy a base model FR-S and not remove the head unit, speakers, HVAC system, back seat, and most of the interior carpeting/panels. It doesn't need any of those bells and whistles. Because racecar.

Seems like someone needs to learn how to haggle.

Also, Clint. (For BRZs, at least get a quote from him to haggle your local dealership.)

Tell us about your MR....

I had one in 1988, brand new, I loved that car, to me it was a Ferrari. I had to get rid of it eventually but in 2007 I saw my present MR2, a 1986. Decent shape, price was right.
I kept good care of it, put a BT 22v in it, but now I am daily driving it to save my FR-S from salt. / a good and bad thing. It will dissolve someday now.

The irony and stupidity of your post combined with the fact that you actually care about this, makes me realize the kind of douche you probably are.

1) Your argument of "there are better options for $26k" is stupid. There is a $4k difference between the base model and the Limited BRZ. If $4k is such a defining factor in your finances, you probably shouldn't be buying a car and investing that money in better education so someday you can actually shrug $4k.

2) There are more justifications and arguments to be made against NOT buying the most optioned car rather than buying the base model. Specially when you talk about such little money, $4000.....that's how much a new Macbook Pro 17" costs with few extra cables and mouse.

The irony of the fact that you say you drive an IS350, and you dare to criticize people taking the smart choice and buying a $28k well equipped entry level sport car is just hilarious.

What I read from your post is:
I can't really afford this car, so I'm buying the base model and I'm trying to feel better about myself by justifying (or attempting to) my choice vs other people's choice and ability to easily afford this car.

Let me guess, you are the kind of guy that drives around hating on the guy next to you driving an M3, somehow telling yourself what an idiot he is for buying that car, while you are driving your FRS or a $15k old lexus?

Ehm, the base model in Norway starts at about 75000 dollars... We do get the Toyota version of course with hid light, start button and so on at the base model, but still...

Well good for you.. But others see the value in extra "bells and whistles"
For their cars and are willing to pay for them. And why not.. Most of these options have little to no weight penalty. Why not make the commute a bit more comfortable and enjoyable..?
There are lots of people who buy sports cars for the looks and not for the performance and want all the conveniences of an optioned out commuter car.
I'm glad the OEM gave us trim levels and choices
Don't be so insulting to others who choose differently to suit their tastes and needs... What's so hard to understand here? Shezzz..
