If you already drive a sports car then it makes sense to need a test drive first but not everyone is in the same situation.
My deposit has no clause for test drive.. I'm fully confident that I will enjoy driving this car. I trust Toyota and Subaru to be smart enough to accomplish their goal of making a fun purist driving car. I also trust the editors and journalists who have had such glowing remarks thus far.

Exactly. Well patience is a virtue and I strive to be virtuous for at least 6-9 months after release.

There will be some on the lots. Just not in the first few months. We have not gotten pricing yet. If it is too high, there will be many on the lots. Remember not all 3150 units are going to come out at one time...450 a month X 7 months. Most of the people that are 7 deep on the preorder list will not see their cars till October or November. Some of the people on the list actually will have 2014 models...hehe!

Lol yeah, no money down, no test drive. That's the way it has always worked for WRXs and STIs, they'll get a powertrip on this car and it will be no different. If the dealer is lucky enough to have a demo, I am willing to bet they won't even take that car out unless it's a customer with a deposit that's waiting for their car to arrive.

Out of curiosity, of the units alotted to the US, how many will be left for joe schmoes like us, after all those aftermarket companies/car mags/pro racecar companies get em? (Im assuming they have first dibs). Or are they not counted in that initial allotment #?

^Meh, you can testdrive an STI, you just have to tell them that the trim they have on display is exactly what you want.

Is there going to be 3,150 or 6,000 units in the first year? I've heard both numbers...

well if they stay with the 540 a month for a whole year that would be 6480 in a year. Very close to the production figures I first read about in Motortrend. They said around 7,000 per year in the article. Well 6480 is certainly around 7K.

540 per month for 7 months (May-Nov) is what the Subaru communication to it's dealers stated last week.

Hard to say what they will do in December and onward..

When the 2004 STI came out you could not get near one. Now that the "first buyer" demand has died down you can occasionally find one on the lot (it still can be hard, especially after the earthquake). The BRZ will be the same, you will be incredibly lucky if you find a dealer that has one in inventory for the first year.

Subarus in general spend only about 1-2 weeks in inventory compared to the US automakers which keep months of inventory on the lot because the unions demand that the factories always run at 100%.

Subaru usually has 30+ days of inventory. In recent months due to high demand for Impreza, it dipped into ~18 days.
Dealer inventory choices have nothing to do with unionization.

Yes, exactly, so the average 2012 Subaru Impreza Wagon spends 8 days on the lot before it is sold, and that is their highest volume car. Basically, even for the high volume cars they can't build them fast enough. The BRZ being a low volume car will not be hanging out on the lots very long, or at all. The only way they would sit in inventory is that sales tank and there is nobody to buy the 5000ish that we are getting this year, but I just don't see that happening.

My dealer= 3 BRZs this year

Dealer said he has heard rumors of some Subaru dealers (not them) that are planning on selling at $2-5k over MSRP. I was like, WTF! He laughed and said, "I know, WTF."
