I wish you were correct. This is going into a little too much detail, but I've personally had a scenerio on here where someone from the Subaru camp basically blew me off and told me "stop asking stupid questions and stop posting" and "I should stay on the Subaru forums. The people are much more inteligent when I try and help them".

When one of the longtime posters responds that way to a new user like me, it doesn't make me feel like this forum is a welcoming place. Not only that but the attitude makes me feel like this whole place is Scion/Toyota vs Subaru and anyone who is not in the right section is somehow not welcome.

This just seems wrong to me and I had to post. I would like to see the end to this sort of thing. We are all buying an 86 after all.

I'll stop jacking the thread now.

I have to ask (maybe this is not the right time or place) but what's with all the Subaru versus Scion comments lately? Not just in this thread, but everywhere on this forum? Since when did everyone on her become brand snobs and eliteist douchbags?

Since when was owning a Scion a bad thing? Just because owners like to personalize their cars? Isn't that true with almost all cars this days? Why label an entire car brand with negitive stigma? It's not the car's fault the owner ruined the looks with giant wing or whatever.

I have to admit. I've seen more of this attitude coming from Subaru fans then the Toyota/Scion fans. I could be wrong about this, but this has just been my observation so far. Maybe I haven't read enough threads on here yet to see it the other way around.

My point is, let's put all of this nonsense to rest! Who cares if one of us buys a Subaru and the other a Scion. Why should the brand make any difference? We all know Subaru is manufactoring the cars and if you take away all the minor differences, they are totally the same car.

No offense but I'm sort of sick of all the Automobile racism I've seen being posted here. Replace the words Subaru and Scion/Toyota with say a white person or black person and we're talking full blown racism here. Why does this have to exist when it comes to the FT86? It's the exact same car just like how you and I are all human.

Please, let us all put the brand racism to rest. Argue the differences all day long, but don't put the other people down just because their ideas or tastes are somehow different.

/end rant

it have nothing to do with brand racism. it have everything to do with the stigma that is associated with the Scion brand owner.

it is Toyota’s choice to brand Scion targeting the youth market, to make it customizable which mostly done by younger buyers. as a result, the negative stigma of the younger buyer of being a poser and immature also stays.

we all know the both cars are just 2 sides of the same coin. so essentially its the people whom we dont like, not the brand or the car, and some owners just dont want to give people the wrong impression.

So you're saying that brandwhore d-bags who stereotype Scion owners as "posers or immature" based on the badge they wear is okay because we knew what we were getting into? That sounds a lot like the argument for rape, "she dressed like that, she asked for it"

Honestly, who's being immature?

If I swap out the Scion badges for Toyota badges, I guess BRZ owners are going to assume I'm an old person who drives slow and doesn't care about performance?

You're just as bad as the rest of them then. Stop associating Scion to youth buyers customizing their cars. This is practically a stereotype.

Are you saying all Subaru Forrester owners are somehow Lesbians? It may be true that a lot of them are, but that doesn't mean its right. Futher more, are you somehow not going to buy a Subaru because mostly lesbians drive them and you hate lesbian people?

Again, its not the cars fault that people customize them. So stop thinking that just because someone buys a Scion means they'll trash the car.

For the record, I have nothing against lesbians or Subaru Forrester owners!

This stigma stays in who's mind? People who are too full of themselves to get over a badge? How can anyone honestly think this way and not realize they sound like tools? As I mentioned in another thread, I used to be in the BMW scene and this sort of thinking ran rampant in M car owners. They thought their cars were vastly superior to "normal" BMWs and treated non M owners like dirt.

I'm so used to this type of shithead attitude that it just rolls right off me I don't even care anymore. In the back of my mind I just label people who think that way as tools. I advise other FR-S owners to do the same. True driving enthusiasts don't care about badges, we care about mechanicals and engineering. I have no interest in chatting to someone at a meet who thinks their car is better because of a few luxury features and different badges when under the skin the cars are identical short of spring rates.

Pretty sure it was a metaphor and the fact you assume the guy is white shows a bit of racial stereotyping on your part. Carry on.

It's primarily the beginners who come here that continue to bring up that rhetoric. People whom have been here for a while have moved on past this notion and appreciate the car itself no matter which brand they have chosen to purchase it from.

Stereotypes can be funny, just like the image of a middle aged Cambodian lady getting e-mad on a car forum. Thanks for the laugh!
