NEVER go under ANYTHING lifted on a hydraulic jack without blocking supporting the weight. The risk is small but the consequence is immediate death with no chance of being saved. |

Lifting a car on any portable jack, hydraulic or not, requires blocking of the suspended weight. If the weight of the car remains on the springs fully then there is no danger. |

It's actually to never use just a jack to get underneath the car. Jackstands are much MUCH safer.

This. One wheel under the engine bay has saved me once already during a front brake job on my previous car (granted, I didn't need to go under the car, but the wheel minimized the resulting damage when the jack slipped)
