Because, this is more absurd than a spelling error. The correct word is "fit". It's much shorter and the right word.

I agree the correct word is fit, but I guess we just have different pet peeves lol. For me it's the horrible misspelling.

In other news, f a g can be substitued for cigarette in certain parts of the world. Too bad they are doing it all wrong since it doesn't mean anything of the sort.

The one that I don't understand as a non-American is how in the US you say "I'll be there momentarily."

To us non Anericans that means you will be there for a very short time and doesn't mean "I'll be there in a moment."

Is the "I'll be there momentarily" common usage there?

Most other differences are spelling or jargon but this is a completely different use of the same word.

be right there

I think sometimes people try to use "bigger" words for no good reason...

When I ring a US vendor and say somthing like "too easy" or "yeah nah" it generally gets a chuckle.

When I first went to the US and ordered a burger I asked to have an egg on it.

Two problems. Our kiwi accent means when we say egg if sounds like igg or ugg to the rest of the world and they don't commonly put eggs on their burgers. It's an Aussie and Kiwi thing. Managed to point to egg on the menu to clear that up and my wife ordered me a side of an egg so I could put it in the burger myself to clear that up.

The next day I was asking directions to the Adidas store but of course we pronounce that completely differently and although I know the US pronunciation I couldn't get it out. My wife had to translate for me. And I do speak English as a first language LOL.

Little things like this make travelling fun!

Had one on my burger last night. Folks who haven't tried it are missing out on the cholesterol-y awesomeness.

Nice to see @bkblitzed and @OrbitalEllipses that you've been converted.

Even McDonalds down under in Aussie and here in New Zealand have the Aussie burger and Kiwi Burger that have a fried egg. "For a limited time" as usual, of course!

Tons of restaurants here offer fried eggs on a burger, just not fast food. Come to think of it, I get a free meal from Red Robin for my birthday so I might as well try it since I haven't before.

I converted ages ago. Used to cook double cheeseburgers with an egg on top in college!
