Where do you buy E85?

Now I've just searched the forums and came up with -NOTHING-!

Also went to Google and Bing to find websites that search for said question. The closest place to where I'm typing this is over 100 miles away.

My Primary question in this thread is...

Can I make my own Hooch, Ethanol to you and me, and just make my own E85? Also another question, is it E85 by Weight or by Volume?

When I'm down in the LA/OC area there is no problem, but when I'm up in Bakersfield I am just S.O.O.L with buying it.

Thank you and have a good day.

You can order VP's C85, not exactly cheap but probably a better idea then brewing your own.

call the local fuel distributors and ask them if they can get you 55g drums of it. Im about to do the same thing here its usually cheaper than getting it at the pump too.

That and Cali Gasoline is 10% Ethanol off the bat, we're just need 75% more "Grain" as John Fogerty might say; sorry if you don't get the analogy.

FYI:

We have been working closely with Pearson Fuels here in California attempting to open several E85 stations here in the low desert (Coachella Valley). They are currently one of many distributors that support alternative fuels such as E85.

One of the options that Pearson Fuels has that no other company has is that they do random checks (I believe once a month) on gas station and if that gas station is below a certain percentage of ethanol content they will be fined. If the gas station fells to have that certain percentage several times they will have their license suspended from selling E85.

Theirs been serval occasions where other vehicle owner use E85 not coming from a Pearson Pump and had issues with their car not running properly (due to the ethanol content). Theirs a limited amount of Pearson E85 pumps out in California and they are expected to grow in the upcoming years.

Just keep in mind when using other branded E85 (you might not be getting what you paid for). With constant testing from their pumps, that's the only reason why I would only pump E85 from a Pearson location.

PS: I've never used C85 so I can not comment on that.

I can for see a few more stations but due to difficulties with permits and CARB it's a very lengthy and expensive project for gas station owners.

Aren't you a lucky one :P lol

It would certainly be easier for a new, as in being built, gas station to get E85.

It's just the matter of investment vs return! Its still a long time before it will make sense for MOST gas stations putting in E85 pumps.

What I want to do is just make it myself. But the only problem I see is getting the Ethanol to absolute 100% Ethanol to keep water out of the tank. Even after distillation you can only get to 95% Ethanol and 5% Water. But I was thinking about using Baked Epsom Salts to soak up the rest of the water. But isn't 100% Ethanol Hygroscopic? So even after you make your 100 Ethanol you have to mix is with the Gasoline or keep in some type of media in situa!

About how far off am I(?); that is a question for people who know their chemistry. Its been about ten, eleven years since I distilled anything using real lab equipment. Gee kids, isn't distilling Safrole from Sassafras Essential Oil fun? That and Palladium is damn expensive as a catalyst. Sorry off topic and inappropriate for this forum. Let's just say I had a lot of fun in my college years and my major was Business with a conc. in M.I.S.! Sometimes I wish I would have went Computer Science, but hey, I got a business degree, majored in accounting for awhile, and can translate between the what the users and Business needs into actual requirements. Sorry, I'm babbling again. I will stop typing now!

HAHAHA

It just seems to me that there are mixed results as to what people are actually getting out of the E85 pumps. So ordering it pre-made from a vendor like VP seems like a way around that. Especially in an area where E85 may not be available at all. Only concern is I'm not sure how I feel about storing barrels of fuel.

I wish there was more e85 stations around me. Only one is like 60+miles......contemplating getting a few 55gallon drums and just spend 1000$ in one fill and refill the drums as needed, only thing making me not want to do it tho is if i take the car on a long trip and theres no e85 around.
