Garage
Was at my old highschool with a friend and his mini cooper S. I was showing him how fun my BRZ was, and I got into his mini and he sliding around and it wasn't as exciting LOL!
Haven't been back to my highschool area for nearly 8 years.

As much as I give myself credit for owning and driving this car during the winter, you guys up north take the prize for biggest winter balls. Good luck through the rest of the winter, guys.

And, side note: This makes all the bitching and moaning about single-digit highs (in F) and lows in the negative teens sound like whining.

I absolutely garage my car. Previous owners of the house insulated the garage like crazy (even the door is insulated). So once both cars are in there at the end of the day, it can be as much as 20-30 degrees warmer than the outside freezing temps. Can it speed corrosion? Possibly, but the water drains off the cars and dries fairly quickly, if it doesnt refreeze (as it usually does this time of year). But, frankly, having a car I don't have to clear off in the mornings, possibly messing up the paint if I have the wrong type of brush, is worth the increased possibility of rusting.

Garaging a new car doesn't speed up corrosion because the corrosion protection is good. Garaging an older car can result in faster corrosion.

It depends on your locale. Out here a heated garage is mostly dry so garaging even an old car will not speed up corrosion. In the East it may.

One tip is to try and dry out the garage between snowstorms. It doesn't take much re-heating of the garage air to dry out the standing water.

I had very little problems driving home last night.
Conversely, the X5 in front of me was fishtailing (I suspect they left the Summers or All-Seasons on, "because 4WD") - until he got behind me, and later ended up sliding into the oncoming lane (thankfully, no cars there) and almost spinning out.

This car has behaved far better than expected so far in the slush and snow - of course, I haven't met any steep icy inclines yet...

yes, steep icy inclines will murder this car, unfortunetly... you'll need a bit of luck and momentum to get out of them

there are a few roads i avoid for this reason when the snow gets really bad.

i'm currently working on an aesthetics friendly trunk weighing option

I specifically avoid inclines in winter when possible

As this topic has been discussed earlier in the forum, may I suggest *rice bags*? You put those in the trunk in winter and eat them when you don't need them. Then get new supply next winter. Very economical and environment friendly...

no, i'm thinking of building a 3-or-2-piece enclosure to mimic the trunk floor using plywood and hardwood. Maybe 6-8 inches deep. Filling that with concrete and let settle, cover with plywood, and wrap the whole thing in felt once done.

removable, re-usable for future winters, and retain use of trunk.

I'm assuming you do, but do you know how much concrete ways per cubic foot? A 6-8" slab would bottom out your suspension and likely break an axle. Keep in mind most residential driveways are poured at about 6", sidewalks at 4", and airport runways get a hefty 18" minimum. There's your random fact of the day

Not saying you shoudln't go this route, but be careful!

Yeah - generally, in exceptionally bad situations, I plan my route to avoid them like the plague...
