You're always going to add another $5000 CAD on top of sale price for ordering a new car for this price for it to be "out the door"... MSRP of the FR-S is not "out the door" price.

Other manufactures will allow you to haggle the price down from MSRP but your still going to be paying the freight, eco, and tax on whatever vehicle you are going to buy.

Take something like the Ford.ca build and price. Take this barebones GT 5.0 hardtop pricing summary:

(Before Building)
Starting Price*: $34,199
_____________
(After Building)
MSRP: $38,699
AC Tax: $100
Freight:$1,500

Discount
Delivery Allowance*: -$4,500 (this is where starting price comes from)

Sales Tax: $4,296

Estimated Vehicle Price: $40,095 This is roughly "out the door" price.

Now manufactures build and price can differ in the way they set it up. Such as some [manufactures] will automatically put Freight and PDI into the MSRP at the summary, some require you to check a tiny box to add Sales Tax (which is purposely left unchecked at the start).

If jeff lange is right (see http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...785#post142785) then for legal reasons there is no pure price policy in Canada, so negotiation could take a chunk out of the MSRP. But of course if demand exceeds supply, for the first year we could wind up with higher than MSRP sale prices.

The Pure Pricing Policy does exist here in Canada, or atleast the dealers still follow the policy. I know this because the Scion Dealer I have my pre-order with has already confirmed this.

I did some reading on the Toyota Access fiasco. It seems to me that a pure pricing policy is actually allowed across the country so that MSRP is not mis-represented across Canada. IE, in BC the price can be no different then in Ontario. They also can (and have too) sell the car for below what the MSRP is listed for. If they don't they could be accused of "Price Fixing"

That being said, I wouldn't walk into the showroom and expect the keys to a new FR-S without paying the MSRP. The whole argument behind "you have to sell this high demand car to me for cheaper because its the law" is silly. Everyone knows this car is going to be in high demand and I wouldn't blame Toyota for sticking to the MSRP. It is business after all and low supply + high demand = higher price.

They're not being greedy or unlawful. They're just trying to make a buck.

At that price I'll just pick one up used in a few years. I've been waiting since 2007 for this car, I can wait longer.

You say that now but what happens the first time you see one cruise by you on the street? My bet is you'll want one.

I have a feeling you'll be hard pressed to find this car used in 2+ years. Unless someone really hates the car, or buys the car and then has triplets, I don't see anyone giving the car up. And if you do find one used, it won't be on sale for long.

Are people forgetting that canadians have to pay HST or something? The sad truth is, get ready to spend extra $2-3k more from your initial standpoint in terms of how much you want to spend.

Lets assume the 2013 GC base costs $24800. I'm paying cash for my next car. Hyundai ALWAYS has manufacturer cash rebates on the Genesis Coupe, literally every month for the last 3 years, they are usually $2400 but occasionally go up to $4000. Hyundai does this for most of their models because they recognize the strength of the Canadian dollar at the time of sale. No other manufacturer that I know of does this.

Buying a 2013 GC for $22400 is a HELL of a lot less money than $25k.

Also in this price range you have Mustang V6s, very lightly used G37s and Porsche Caymans.

My point is that $30000 after taxes and freight is a lot of money.
I'm telling you right now you won't be able to buy a 2013 GC for $22,400, especially in canada. Especially if you want the r-spec model, add another $5k. I'm sorry if I burst your hope in buying a car for less, but this is canada, not U.S, we get taxed to death + price markup.

Also, are many of you buying the car cash? Because if not, you should be considering the finance rates vs Hyundai or whichever other brand you might be looking at.

I'm well aware of the costs. The 2013 GC 2.0T R-Spec is $28800 in Canada. The big difference is that the GC comes with a manufacturers cash rebate of $2400. I'm assuming this because Hyundai has offered that rebate every month for the last two years for those of us paying cash. Financing is a waste of money.

If I can get an R-spec for 26400 thats a much better value than an FRS/BRZ.

A lightly used (Under 30000km) Mustang or G37S are also very compelling arguments.

Why are you keep trying to hide tax? add another 13% HST onto that and it shoots back way up regardless if you pay cash or not. Don't forget freight costs as well. Regardless whether you go for either or of these cars, expect to pay up good amount. I understand your point, as you take your dollar for your value seriously and I can definitely see that the genesis offers more for it's value. But that is IF the starting price for the FR-S is anywhere near $27k, more so I would estimate near $24,999 + tax/freight

I get the feeling the price would be above $24,999. If it was that price, my purchase of an FR-S is set in stone but all signs point to more monies.
