Im sure my Kia Rio has better gearing than that.. of course thats not confirmed, It'd take jet propulsion to get my Kia over 100mph, but thats beside the point.

The first movie? Didn't dude spin out, rather than topping out? Seems like more HP isn't the best solution...

Yeah at the beginning he spins out, but before his first race he goes in and tells Harry that he topped at 140 and needs NAWSSSZZZ for his ride.
