Actually setting the price Toyota Japan charges Toyota Canada is probably more about relative tax advantages and where Toyota wants to maximize its profits. Consider 2 scenarios:

1. Charge high wholesale to Toyota Canada, with relatively little markup from Toyota Canada to CDN dealers so Toyota Canada makes little profit and Toyota Japan reaps most of profit.
2. the reverse - low wholesale, high Canadian markup to dealers: Toyota Japan makes little profit, Toyota Canada hits the gravy train.

Do 1 if corporate tax rates are relatively more favourable to Toyota in Japan than Canada; 2 if better in Canada. Voila, maximized shareholder return. Of course this is independent of setting final dealer invoice.

Well, I hope it is less than that... To be perfectly honest 24-25k seams like a lot for what you get.

I know it is a drop dead beautiful car, and has received pretty good reviews so far... but still. This is a very small, pretty bare-bones, normally aspirated car... 25k+ seams pretty steep.

You're kidding - I hope. Look, a bloody Civic SI is $25,990 CDN for Chrissake... If the FR-S comes in at $27 CDN I will be THRILLED, it is SO much more car.

Or maybe you are just lost - you do realize that this is a thread about the Canadian auto show and CANADIAN prices? (Why do 'Mericuns so often assume everything is about them?)

At 27k CAD... I still can't see myself purchasing this car. Too expensive Maybe when I'm done school... but while in School... not possible.

Also... quick question, is the one being released in may a 2013 model? Meaning no change from now till 2014? If so... I might actually ask my parents to help me purchase this car LOL

I'm from Canada... Education is subsidized, & my parents brought an RESP which covers most/all of my education...

And tbh... if someone's excuse for not taking post secondary education is "expense" then that's just a bad reflection on their country. Every1 I know is in coop... They pay off almost all their fees in 4 months of work.

What is so much more about it?

Aside from one being FWD and the other RWD, they basically have the same specifications. There is nothing really new or ground breaking in the FRS to justify a high price. Many people wont pay $27K for a car thats as simple and basic as the FRS with little to no options when cars like the Si come with Navi, nice stereo, moon roof, etc and are more practical for less money.

If the FRS is priced any more then $25K in Canada, I really dont see them selling alot of them.

no kidding other than some hype videos there is nothing out there that proves this car is better than a Honda civic or Toyota Corolla. How many times a day are u going to spin ur rear tires and corner super fast? Look at RX8 all hype and now u dont see anyone driving one anymore. someone already said they are working on more powerful model so I would rather wait another year than to buy a first year rushout car.

You might be waiting for a factory turbo FR-S for a grip. A supercharger is more likey but it ain't going to happen for at least another 3 to 4 years. Maybe even in the next generation FR-S. But by then gas will be like $10 a gallon and nobody will want a car that does not get over 35 MPG....

It depends on how define "more car" - and I think most here would say it's something that brings you to the telepathic feel and control you get with top sports cars like the Miata at the low end, the Cayman at the higher end.

Go read a stack of FR-S/BRZ reviews (basically all raves about the handling) and then eyeball the lukewarm, "meh" reviews of the new SI, you'll get the picture. A difference easily worth 1-2k in my book.

Oh, I agree on the handling and feel part. Its a true drivers car. Ive seen all the videos and read all the articles on how well the car handles on a track, but how does it drive on the street.

I think that for those people that spend a good part of their day stuck on the 401 and/or intend to use the car as a daily, $27K might be much for a car lacking in options and practicality, that might be loud inside and uncomfortable on the city street.
