Toronto Auto Show Feb. 17-25 (FRS CDN price = $27,500)

Hi all you crazy and not so crazy FRS/BRZ addicts. I've been lurking the boards since it started and following this car since the concept was anounced for almost 2 years now, waiting just like everyone else. During that time, this car has been in and out of my mind and I finally got to see it during my trip to Toronto, Canada. Wasn't a planned trip and my brother told me about the auto show so we went cause I knew that this would be my only chance to see the FRS/BRZ before it hit the dealers and I knew you all on here would want someone to post about it since I didn't see anyone else mention it.

I talked to the Scion rep that was answering questions about the FRS and here is what he said:

Canadian price: $27,500 CDN
Someone do some number crunching and come up with a US price tag.
My guess is around $24,000
(I asked for a US price and he didn't know)
Only 2 versions of this car: 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic
No other options or models, just one price and that's it (choose your color of course).
Factory Turbo? No turbo for this year model.
Factory Turbo in the future? He kind of squirmed and gave me this "eeeeeaaaaaahhhhhhh", which I took as he didn't know or didn't want to tell me. I think what his intentions were was to keep me hanging and taunt me like a real sales dude, instead of just turning me right off from the car by saying no. He thought I would just walk off after hearing no turbo, but I didn't. Guess he would be tired of hearing the question a lot.
However, he did say that there is a Greddy turbo kit for the car and some other tuning brand turbo that I didn't catch. My impression from the whole turbo question and answer was that the FRS will never have a factory turbo fitted because they want to keep the price down. Also, this is a tuners car which people would want to modify themselves and do what they want with the car, not a pre-packaged luxury car with all the options you can think of. This is a bare bones no nonsense car and that's the way I wanted it. Okay the one thing that he said which really lead me to believe that there would be no factory turbo is when he said, "there's plenty of room under the hood". This to me meant "do it yourself" or "assembly required" like IKEA.

The BRZ was on a turn table display and not many reps were available to talk about it but it is looking sweet. At first I didn't like the BRZ version but it's coming around to me more, I guess cause I'm a bit older than the 20-30 crowd that everyone keeps talking about and the Scion is for 'younger' people? I don't know about you guys buy I'm 36 and I can afford a luxury car but I'd rather have one of these instead cause I'm a driver, not a passenger. I've driven a 95 honda prelude for the past 6 years and loved it but it is ready to retire. If the FRS/BRZ drives as well as I think it will, then it's my next car. Oh, I'm undecided on whether to get the Subaru or Scion version until I test drive each one. Anyways enjoy the pics.

I could be wrong but the rep you talked to was likely guessing.

I was at the VIP Event on Saturday and spoke directly to the Canadian Brand Manager, he told me there was no set price still and they were still working it out and to expect a price between march and april.

I went back to the booth later in the day and there was a random scion representative there, he told me flat out 24,000 MSRP(Which I'm assuming was a total guess).

Honestly if it was $27,500, I wouldn't be totally surprised though we're all hoping for a little less.

Far as the Greddy stuff, I think he's talking about the turbo FR-S drift car but that has a total different engine in it(Not the stock motor).

hm.....

I was expecting around 26k 27.5 isnt too much over.

Still cheaper than a new miata thought up here which AFAIK costs just under 30k start.

I supposed they're trying to position it as an alternative to a Miata? (Since aside from the extra two seats seems to be its closest competitor)

This bodes well for the US pricing.

That is not true. No price has been set yet. They are still analysing market data, consmuer research and ect. That was just a guess. Trust me they are incredebly tight lipped on that sort of stuff.

I was at the show as well and I was very impressed by both the BRZ and FR-S...I was standing by the BRZ turntable for about 30 mins and the things I've heard..oh my

"Official name is FR-86!!!"...
"Nobody, and I repeat nobody will buy this (BRZ) because of the WRX"...
"Oh it will probably cost more than the STI"
"It has the same motor as the STI!"..
"This is the replacement for the supra..."

Eh lol people really don't know much about cars hehe...

You forgot to mention the following:

"You can fit atleast 2 dead hookers in the trunk"
"That trunk is so big.... you could fit Ross Kemp back there"

Ugh....

If this car is seriously released for 2.7 then there is no way I'll be picking it up

Being a University student who only works 4 months of the year, I can only afford to put in ~8k into a car (insurance, gas, etc.) a year. Not to mention I can only drive this car 4... maybe 8 months out of the year?

@ a price point of low 20's this car is attractive. But high 20's? REALLY?

The hardships of being a university student :'(

If the price is high 20's, then I'll grab a GC no second guesses. I already test drove the GC. Very nice interior, nice acceleration. Doesn't feel slow/fat to me at all ^^ 2013 should be all the sweeter!

Canadians always get ripped off

I don't see the FR-S costing $27,500 considering it is a BASE car, it has nothing added to it. Why would people buy the FR-S when they can get the Genesis Coupe for just as much and fully loaded with leather seats and plenty of features? If they want to compete they're gonna have to come up with a different price. I can see the Subaru costing $27,500, considering they even mentioned it was going to be cheaper than the WRX, the base WRX in Canada is $32,495. If the Scion comes over $23-25k I would be seriously disappointed.

$27,500 canadian is like $24k usd in the states right? Sounds about right. I feel for you guys. Can u not just come down to the USA and buy the car?

Looks like the BRZ limited is only going to be a few k more than the frs. But who knows. Hopefully scion will release pricing next week like Subaru...

Actually no. Based on current exchange rates $27.5k CAD is about $27.5k USD ;-)
Much like UK, Aussie, Japanese prices, there is no point in basing one of of the other.
But yes generally speaking, cars, books, DVDs, we get screwed on pricing in Canada :-(

I see exchange rate is about the same. Why do they price your cars higher in Canada? Greed?
