They are height adjustable struts basically, lowering springs you are limited to a set height designed by the springs, coilovers have a threaded body with nuts that allow you to raise or lower the springs.

Now, you don't have to follow ol @Luis_GT down every pig path he takes......

Before you go throwing money into a perfectly good car, for average driving, I would suggest you ask yourself this question "What do I want my car to do, that it doesn't already do?"

Your answer will lead you to the "appropriate" modifications.

So, what do you want your car to do ..... better, if anything?

depends on what you want to do with your car. Coilovers have a wider range of adjustment, but at the same time it requires more patience and know-how to set them up correctly.
