Yah i agree about the rules too strict at national level for mods thatdont do anything but improve looks IE Shark fin antenna . But the rules are very well set for an autox(STX) car. With a simple change of wheels/tires I go fast STX car(driver still needs work) to maxed out in points in street class. However deployment and sea trials put me out for at least the next 2 seasons.

@CSG Mike love the rules format. very different setups, same class. brilliant!

One of the things with all the various types of cars and mods on the market, is that (given time) someone will find a way to exploit a loophole to their advantage.

One only needs to look at Formula 1, Le Mans, and other top forms of racing to see this happening... and in the end it's about everyone competing on equal footing.

@mav1178 so did you guys try to spec some cars, yet?

And am I the only one that thinks stock class need a tiny bit more points to play with?

There's seriously not too much advantage a 1 pt car has over the .5pts car according to Mike's draft. This will allow those that just lowered their cars with not much else to throw on some stickies and and run in stock class where, IMHO, those cars will belong instead of getting overclassed by those who use most of the 3.5pts in the new street class. This will get all the newbs *points to self* with near-stock, lightly modded cars on the grids.

Stock class is fine. Really it's only there to ease in the folks that want to show up for a track day without having modded their cars at all and still feel like they could do something competitive that day if they choose. Despite the stock class being the tightest on performance mod allowance, history shows us that there is the widest gap in laptimes amongst the stock car drivers due to skill level differences (upwards of 20+sec per lap on any given day). Even a 1 pt allowance on the class threshold could push that gap even further.

Street class becomes a little more competitive as not only are people choosing better performance mods, but driver skill tends to be a little better. Despite the much larger gap in mod allowances, we typically see a 10sec or less gap in between the best and worst drivers (but amongst the better guys, the gap is usually closer to 2-3sec or less). This is also the class where you'll see the most competition so if you're looking to compare yourself and your car to other 86's, this is the class to be in anyways.

Mod and above classes are typically either the die hard track veterans or shops looking to test parts. In general the driver skill and laptimes in these classes are much tighter despite having the largest possible gaps in mods (unless your name is CSG Mike, in which case, he's in his own league :P). And this is where the ruleset really comes into play.

The lower the class you're coming into the FT86CUP, the more driver skill can make up for any lack of mods you might have. Just come out to have fun and get that seat time in! We'll try to have a few vets at every event so the newer folks can figure out what they want to do with both their skills and their cars and slowly ease them into dat track life.

And from my own personal experience having been at every 86CUP event in 2013, almost everyone that's come out to these track events is pretty dang friendly and I've made a lot of good friends over the last year. So come on out and meet your 86 brethren and have a good time!

I vote a dinner at the next Irvine meet! Because I like to eat. And I'm fat. So I like to eat.

Yep. That is why the rules are that way However I am sure an email to the SEB people might get some it by.

@CSG Mike just curious (because I own one), under the rules is a lightened crank pulley (or any pulley for that matter) a free modification? Since it's not listed I assume it falls under this description:

- any lightweight parts that do not also enhance performance by improving power, aerodynamics, handling, etc.*
