No. Subaru has the wrx. Toyota will soon have the supra. No reason to put a turbo in the brz/frs.

The drivetrain would be different. Duh...

There are lots of threads speculating on when/if the power will come, but I've never seen one that addresses the other bits of drivetrain that might come along with it. I did search, but with all the other threads just speculating, it's hard to find the ones you want that might also mention the other pieces of drivetrain somewhere in the thread.

If A happens ... B happens by default .... And then follows C. MSRP>25K. Car will then compete with the WRX, new Supra, and my new favorite ... The Alfa 4C.

I'm fine with C to get a little A and B. I'm sure the Supra will still cost a lot more. I'd bet more like $50k. The price of the BRZ is already in line with the WRX. And that Alfa 4C...definitely like it, but not enough to buy it.

Doubtful, that they will consider changing the components to allow for an additional 100HP on top of your suggested stock 250. They always build in some extra capacity for reliability. If they went to 250HP, the drive train might be capable of holding 325. I have no Idea what Toyobaru has done in the past but I work on the component side of OEM parts directly with the OEM engineers and have a pretty good grip on what they are concerned about....(Hint: Warranty)

I suppose I could live with just 325HP.

Well, the current Drive Train can get you into 350 HP, unless you Launch it every dang chance you got off the red lights....

The 2.5 probably be released with a big chance, and there are 2 separate ways we can see as possibilities

1/ 2.5 with the same Drive Train, a slight increase in Cost. This will be Toyota way of doing, and it has always been Toyota, they care about Engine Bullet Proof Capabilities, but not so much in After market Mods for the rest.

2/ 2.5 with upgraded Drive Train, a more expensive package. This will probably be Subaru ways of business, and always had been, even the original twin engineering. Subaru cares about the car in a whole. That includes some Modding by After Market. This probably will be STI version in the NA

The forester XT is turbo version of brz engine. Wish the BRZ had the XT setup.

  • Stage 1 (completed) - Direct injection 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer incorporating Toyota's DS-4 technology for the BRZ
  • Stage 2 - Direct injection turbocharged variant of the FA20 2.0-liter
  • Stage 3 - High-powered four-cylinder turbo boxer for the next generation WRX. While the final engine capacity has not been decided yet, the consensus inside Subaru is leaning towards downsizing and tweaking the BRZ's FA20 2.0-liter unit into a 1.6-liter turbo featuring new lean-burn technology."
All of these have happened... The 1.6L turbo is used in Japan...

I'd imagine that a big factor in this would be how they make additional power.

Anyone who knows anything about drive systems knows that torque is what sizes them, not power.

If they give the engine better breathing at high RPMs and maybe raise the rev limiter to hit a higher peak HP number without significantly touching peak torque, I'd consider a drivetrain upgrade less likely than if they do something to significantly increase torque. For instance, the AP1 S2000 engine makes 240 hp but only 2 ft-lbs more torque, so if a revised FA20 put up those numbers, they probably wouldn't need to change the drivetrain.

I just don't think it fits in our cars with a turbo. It's how the engine is in already, and putting the turbo on doesn't work. So I'm guessing that they'd have to redesign a lot more stuff to make an FA20 turbo to fit in these cars, not just swap in the forester/WRX engine.
