This is what leads people to put those stickers of tracks that they've driven on the back of their daily-driven track cars. Boom instant transformation. It's no longer rice, it's function>form.
That big ugly wing? That's for downforce in high-speed corners. Cracked fiberglass front splitter? More downforce. Stripped out interior? Weight savings. CF vented hood? Heat dissipation. Home depot rear diffuser? Resourceful man's aero. And so on... It's funny how that works.

Obviously he looks like he tracks it if not he is building a track looking car or race-car if you prefer. Stretched tires are nowhere near these, have you seen stretched tires? Still not rice if you ask me. The wing does not have to be used in the track only for it to not be rice. Most of the cars you see in SEMA or any other car show have GT Wings mostly yet they never see the track, does that make them rice? not really, yes a huge wing would kill the car but still, if it blends in with the look you're going for then it's not rice. You can't go bosozoku style with a huge ass GT Wing, and you can't go with a race-car look and leave the rear with no spoiler, aye? Stretched tires: Once you see the lip poking out like this then that's what they mean by stretched, now I know you'll say that once the sidewall is pulled even if a bit then it's stretched but that wouldn't give it form > function, that one is nowhere being stretched in terms of losing grip because of the sidewalls not even touching the road. Believe it or not stretched tires are used for drifting to reduce grip of the tires and allow the car to slide easier, so that is function > form for you. |

Japanese loves rice! They love that gaudy shit.
I was in Japan in September and saw a few big ass wings on cars... plus a fair share of stock beauties... but then I saw an older Honda Odyssey and that thing had LEDs everywhere. It was like he was having a party in his van. Ah Japan... how I miss you, lol. |

I just saw this thread and I agree with all of you about the gaudy wing. I actually bought a second trunk to put the Voltex Wing on mostly due to the number of holes needed to cover up on the limited wing, so thus I'm able to switch between 2 trunks anytime. Camber all around is 1.5 which seems excessive to a lot of you but I'm sure everyone here is a track star. |

Within my group of track junkies, I am the only one driving a Japanese car that isn't a GTR or Z. I couldn't care less what others think about the way my car looks (yes I have stickers) or sounds (it is un catted) because I enjoy driving it so damn much both on the street and more so at the track. And by the way a Voltex wing is next on the list after a decent set of seats! Function > Form FTW

If I may be so bold as to say that I think viewing others as "ricers" or not, really depends on one's view of oneself (or ego). Needless to say, for the last few years, I've been involved with a group of friends who drove things ranging from MB C Coupe (as I did) to cars as over the top as a GT-R, SLS, and even 599.
Growing up amongst Honda lovers, I have utmost respect for imports and affordable sports cars. Which is why, in many respects (as far as money goes), I have downgraded. But I have never been happier! Sadly, most of the euro-driving community will view us (regardless of how clean our cars our) as rice... And in all honesty, even other fans of imports will form prejudices against our cars too. I've met an NSX owner who said my car was "a slow waste of money". Some may disagree, but at the end of the day - these "ricers" are still very lucky; they are getting a very pure sports car experience (stock) for hardly any more than what a Honda Civic Si used to cost (adjusted for inflation). I used to own one, so I know. |

The word "ricer" has completely evolved from what it used to mean 10 years ago (or more) to pretty much what it is today.
Today... anything that is gaudy or w/e is now "rice". It's interesting how often the word "rice" and "ricer" is used with the word "hater"... Anyways... In my own opinion... I categorize things as "I like it", "I don't like it", and "I question the person's intelligence". Best part is that this categorization can be applied to other things besides cars.

The trend where people use quick release steering wheel hubs and drive while hanging the steering wheel out the window... throw these people in the "I question the person's intelligence" group.
