I went from a '99 Porsche Carrera to the FR-S and yeah there's no way I can get that kind of acceleration, but I didn't get this car for the straight line racing. I got it because of it's cornering ability. It's a better autocross car than my old 911. The OP made a mistake buying this car if he wanted a drag racer.

I like going 375-400 miles on a tank, and only needing to fill up 11.5-12 gallons of gas. Not sure if I'd get that kinda mileage with 230-250hp.

Surely the AE86 was on radial tires, too...

I don't really care what other people say because I bought this car on my own reason.

The FR-S is not too bad at sea level or low elevation. It's pretty sweet actually.

But I had mine in Colorado recently and I could tell the difference.

Why would anyone expect a $25K car to keep up with ones that are $75-$200K?

If I had $75K+ to spend on something fun, would I have gotten the FR-S? No.

For me, it's a great combo of enough power, gas mileage, handling, fun, & great looking. It's making me a better driver and I'd get it again in a heartbeat. I will probably do some minor mods to help w/ torque dip (tune, catback, etc.)

I say yes! Get the cheap fun (good mpg, handling, looks) and pocket the $50k+ for some other worldly pleasures

Muscle car

I also own a 68 442 Cutlass. Fast to be sure with 370 hp... But in comparison to the fr-s, it corners like a bath tub.

I find the performance pretty decent considering it's a four cylinder.

Oh - absolutely. I completely agree with this. I love the FR-S/BRZ as a car, and I think it's great fun. It doesn't need to keep up with a Z06, R8, Viper, or M3 to be a blast to drive, and that really isn't its purpose anyways.

The first time I got my FR-S on a track it had a few simple mods (springs, Hawk brake pads, and some Nitto NT-01 tires) and there is no way I could have been disappointed! I was able to keep up with GTOs and M3s through the twisties and everyone who saw the car in action were amazed. Sure I fell a little behind in the straits but I could always catch up in the turns and had a blast doing it! I couldn't be more happy with my FR-S.

The lack of torque is what kills it. Especially in the midrange.

50hp would be cool but I'd rather 50 more lb-ft of torque.

Without increasing the redline, 50 more hp would require more torque. Likewise, 50 more peak torque (@6600 rpm's) would result in more hp.

I think what you were trying to say was that you want more available torque at lower rpm's. Unfortunately, this is a small displacement engine, so you either need forced induction, a hybrid system, or a larger displacement engine in order to make big torque at low rpm's.
