Yes...my car is a '95 hardtop NA. Hardtop Supras (Turbo or not) are hard to find, especially a 9+ out of 10 condition car like mine is.

I've been offered more for it than I paid several times, but am keeping it to give to my son someday.

I have no desire to daily drive a car that is approaching 20 years old. While I appreciate Supras, they aren't the type of car I'd own. Small, nimble, and light have always been my preference.

The difference between a Supra and a Corvette is that the Supra actually handles well.
It's not an FD RX7 in that way but it's overall a better car than the FT-86 can ever be in my opinion.

Are you sure the Supra costs that much to maintain ? General idea HERE I live is that it's quite cheap! I never heard of anyone breaking down really...

The 90s era JDM cars (300zx/R32s/Supra/RX7) were against real competitors like the 911/F355 etc.

The FR-S/BRZ will be competing to beat a Hyundai Genesis or struggle against the out of production RX8 which is more practical, less reliable, drinks more fuel and probably a tad better car in power/handling (there's still the Spirit version coming out tho but no performance upgrades if anyone is interested:P).

My opinion is if you're cross-shopping a Supra and a FR-S then the FR-S shouldn't be considered. I doubt there's a new car to compare with the Supra, the 3.0L TT is a dying breed at the moment... They are simply not in the same league...

An FR-S sounds great and I hope it does well, I will not be buying it though (at least not now, maybe in 5 years/if they come out with a 300hp version).

Also whoever says the Toyota FR-S will be an investment or holding value then you're mistaken, check out any Toyota MR2 SW20 and tell me how they're holding up against cars from the same age, they plummeted. Apart from the Supra, nothing else held its value... Food for thought !

I won't even go into Subaru cars, they depreciate like a block of concrete in a river...
(I know, I own one :P)

Take my facts with a grain of salt, I live in the EU and we get RHD cars

To sum up my advice:
If you definitely need to buy a new car for all means wait for FR-S and BRZ, see prices/compare options and so on and choose between the two.
The Hyundai as good as it is, it looks ugly for me and it's a Hyundai. I'd prefer some heritage from a sports car :P

If you can manage the fact of a used car, you can find a lot of cars equivalent or better for same/less/much less money. May need repairs and they'll have some years under their belt. Calculate the depreciation of a new FR-S over 60k miles/5 years or whatever versus the costs of repair on an older car...

It all depends on what you're able to live with and what you want.

I have owned 4 Subaru's now, if you actually buy them right, they hold Value quite well. Def doesn't help if you pay MSRP or more....I've sold outright/traded in, yet to be upside down.

Other then being dead wrong about your Corvette blanket statement, I agree with some of what you said. Your market is different however, many of those mid 90's Japanese vehicles, and the WRX/STi actually hold there value quite well here. You must remember that we can only buy a select small list of grey market cars in the US, so the USDM versions of these vehicles tend to be worth more then they would be in a market where you can cheaply import a car from Japan.

The Mark IV Supra (made between 1993 and 1998) will out handle a Corvette from that same era. I know...I've owned 26 Corvettes over the years, and the Corvette from that generation was not a great handling car at all.

In 1998, the Corvette got far better, but the early and mid '90's Corvettes were not that great handling wise. The Supra and the 300ZX Twin Turbo pretty much dominated the Corvette during that time period.

Just curious, but why in the world have you owned 26 Corvettes?

Sure but I'm pretty positive a Supra will hold it's value better if you compare today's price and in 5 years than an FR-S/BRZ...

Also Supra makes a great daily driver even when pushing 500whp (or so I'm told from friends who own them).
Someone said something about "not being able to go back to CDs" etc.
C'mon, you know you can just upgrade the in car entertainment right? :P
That's not valid argument for me

In my opinion buying a new car the depreciation is much worse than buying an old car and repairing it. At least you're getting something for the money spent, not just down the drain really... What do you guys think?

BTW: I have a question for you guys, do you get any taxation on your car per year depending on displacement or anything else?
Because here we get like $800 USD for a 3.0L engine car (Supra) versus $300 USD for a 2.0L engine PER YEAR - Rotary cars get a $74 tax/year

That's one more thing to consider here...!

I've owned 108 cars the past 25 years my wife and I have been married. Just so happens that 26 of them have been Corvettes.
