Hey @4azcats,

Lisa and I are thinking about doing a drop-in and OFT tune, until we do the full intake and engine-back exhaust (decisions, decisions).

Which drop-in did you go with? We're thinking K&N since we've had luck with them before and they seem to get good reviews here.

Where did you get the OFT and how much? was there a preset tune you could use to just load to the car, or did you have to do a bunch of custom mapping and tweaking?
I know, I should be able to find all this info here in the forums with , but it's like information overload trying to get to the bottom of a question...

Thanks!

I set Bill up with the Stage 1 91 Tune, no tweaking was required as its still using the stock airbox and MAF location. I still recommend against K&N to anyone in the desert.

I have linked this thread many times as no one wants to believe that not only does the K&N not flow great for very long but it lets more dirt by it into your motor. If you are going to get an K&N I would not oil it, otherwise I would get a different drop in.

As for price he got in on the group buy I did at 420 per Open Flash with me covering the shipping. You can buy them directly from Vishnu for 495.

Thanks Cross! I'm pretty religious about cleaning and oiling a wet filter every 3k miles, and I just barely oil it to avoid MAF issues. It's become a habit - maybe one I should break...?

I was considering running a dry filter, like the Apex'i, but maybe I'll do like you said and run the K&N dry.

Is the OFT something we should own, or should I persuade someone on here to flash our car in exchange for a case of beer or whatever's equitable? I think in the long run, we'd like to have one, but for now, just looking to get a quick tune until we figure out or complete strategy.

Thanks!

If you don't mind me jumping in on this I would highly recommend you buy the OFT. elliott/cross just set me up with mine and it was a HUGEEEEEE difference in performance and just the drivability of the car itself, changed it completely in a good way of course plus OFT has many maps to work with different upgrades you have in your car and I've heard rumors they are working on supercharge maps and turbo maps as well. As for an intake system I'd suggest just a upgraded drop in and maybe just a replaceable silicone tube thats what i have and I'm really happy with it

Don't forget you can use OFT shelf tunes using ecutek now as well, but with added features. makes me half tempted to purchase a vendor license if people are not wanting to purchase OFT hardware and just want the OFT canned tune... Would anyone be interested? It'd be something like 300-350 to just flash it and license the ecu through ecutek. And then if you want you can buy a cable later to re-tune it, or go to a tuner that has a cable.

Someone with an OFT can't just give you a tune they lock to each car. You can pay for multiple if you request so directly from Vishnu but I can't just plug my unit into your car and tune it without paying for such an addition. So it would be something you have to buy yourself most likely unless you can find someone who would not mind sharing.
However you would be the first local AT to try the Open Flash and I would be very interested to feel a before and after.

On the K&N I do think its a habit you should break. Just for this reason alone:

24 Minutes and it passed that much dirt... the next question becomes just how much dirt does it take to cause harm but for me I will stick with lower numbers from dry filters.

I wonder how the OEM performs in comparison unless it is the ac delco part on that graph.

Gotta set a date to go through the ecutek tuning stuff.

That OEM was an AC Delco but that's normally a GM Part granted it was posted on a Nissan Forum... Honestly I think he just bought air filters readily available from an auto parts store for the testing.

Afe makes a great dry filter. Dont use a oil filter dry.it will deteriorate. Oft is a great platform with expansion and you can load tunes and leave it till you change other things or an update comes out.
