Notice you are new. This forum has more up to date info than dealers. We will hear on here before the dealers do. Many dealers are getting their info from forum members on here.

The Genesis Coupe is as much a competitor for this car as ANY OTHER CAR WITH TWO DOORS! You represent an irrelevant segment of the market that is 100% focused on sports car performance. I actually share much of that focus with you, the difference is that I'm not deluded enough to think that there aren't other fun sports cars on the market. North America isn't Japan, there are plenty of people that will cross shop Genesis Coupes with lightly used G37s, 370zs, Mustang GTs, Camaros, Civic SIs, Miatas and of course the FRS/BRZ. Life is one big review to me... I buy the products that come with the best reviews and value per dollar. Brands mean nothing to me and never will, if you have a brain in your head they shouldn't mean anything to you either. |

The only way I find brands relevant is when they have consistently good or bad ratings across many years and models in the reliability department with CR. Toyota and (to a lesser extent) Subaru have both done well in that regard, whereas most of the premium Euro brands have not done so well. This factor would definitely play a significant role in any buying decision I made, although it would not take precedence over all other considerations.

Are you guys comparing the FR-S/BRZ to the Cayman? I'd imagine you are referring to maybe the 2006/2007 Cayman which would be about the same price range as the FR-S/BRZ now... even then it's a tough call... it's a Porsche we're talking about after all.

it's not a brands thing, its a 3300lb thing, the GC is a Korean Mustang. would you "compare" a Mustang to lets say an S2000? (well the S2000 is too expensive so i'll just buy a Mustang) I'm getting this car because nothing like it has been made in a similar price range (new). If i wanted a GC i would have bought it back when it came out (and i did want to buy it) but after looking up the specs i decided against it, because it simply wasn't as refined as the Toyobaru is in terms of what it set out to do. are you an MCO member? autocross? time attack?

Sure, people will always "cross-shop" and compare to other cars that are obtainable for similar money, but lets' be honest, The only other comparable cars out there for the purest are the S2000 and Miata. For something in Hardtop coupe form, on the NEW car market, there's simply nothing else close to offering what this car will. BTW the Genesis Coupe was Hyundai's first attempt to dip their toes into the "affordable" rwd coupe segment. It was all about making a more attractive priced G37 really. I severely doubt their main focus was on the driving experience. I'm betting Looks, Horsepower, Equipment and Pricing bracket were all placed ahead of driving experience. Not to fault them though, It's what most companies making a "sports car" do now, Which is what makes the FR-S so special to me at least. I make sports car decisions with my heart, leave the Rational decisions for family sedan and Suv's

I wholly agree with your sentiments regarding what you are looking for in a sporty car, but all the stat sheet comparisons only get you so far. I had a V6 Mustang for a rental car when I went home for Christmas and took it around the same roads in the Fraser Valley I used to take my '07 Civic Si on and I thought it performed pretty well all things considered, minus the terrible autobox. |

I gotta say... I'm a huge fan for the new gen coupe!!... it does have better power to weight ratio compared to the FR-S... but the listed prices are out based on pre-orders ....
2013 Gen Coupe base 2.0T 6 speed manual $24,899-->$26,499 (+$1600) 2013 Gen Coupe Base 2.0T 8 Speed auto $26,399-->28,299 (+$1900) 2013 Gen Coupe 2.0T 6 speed premium Package $27,899-->29,899 (+$2000) 2013 Gen Coupe 2.0T 8 speed auto premium package $29,399-->31,699 (+$2300) 2013 Gen coupe 2.0T 6 speed manual R Spec NEW-->28,799 2013 Gen coupe 3.8 GT 6 speed manual $36,499-->36,999 (+$500) 2013 Gen Coupe 3.8GT 8 speed auto $38,299-->38,799 (+$500) The prices are a bit higher than before, but for what your getting... its a good deal... However, the FR-S is suppose to be cheaper than the new gene... so base prices on that I'm gonna be buying the car as a daily commute, so i'm leaning more towards the gene cause its also a bit more roomy (hardly) ... but if i'm gonna tune it out... FR-S Hands DOWN!!!... i'm guessing the price difference would be around $3000 min due to the difference in the tech and BHP... and if i spend that on tricking out the ride... track days against a gene would be like a race between the roadrunner and penguin!! |

ehhhh.... not really. Both are rear wheel drive sport 2+2 sport coupes, and it seams both are at the same price point. I would say out of every new car on the market, the closest competitors to the FR-S/BRZ is the Genesis coupe. And unless Hyundai drastically increases the price, the 2.0T R-Spec, at least on the surface, appears to be the better performance car for the money (especially if you want to modify it). We will see when people start to do some full on testing of both models. |

Your pricing is a few thousand more (10k more!!!!) than what my local Hyundai dealer quoted me today. Are you talking CA Dollars? My dealer indicated that MSRP will be about +2k across the board from the current pricing. I did not ask about auto pricing, just the manuals. I was quoted 2013 Genesis Coupe 2.0t R-Spec, $27,000 MSRP with a $500 deposit, they will order it and sell for $26,250 +TTT , which would be @27.5k out the door; for the 348hp 3.8L r-Spec I was quoted $29,200 MSRP, would sell for $28,450 +TTT; which would be @29.5k out the door. just FYI that falls exactly in line with the pricing information posted on Autoblog... http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/21/2...-3-8-and-2-0t/ "Prices start at $24,250 for a Genesis Coupe 2.0T with a six-speed manual transmission, plus $850 for destination and handling. Opting for the eight-speed automatic will cost buyers an additional $1,250, though if you're buying, spend the cash for an R-Spec model. With its upgraded brakes, limited-slip differential and adjustable front suspension, the R-Spec trim is well worth the $2,250 Hyundai asks over the base 2.0T. Drivers can hop behind the wheel of a Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec for $28,750" If you want to modify the car, I think the Gen coupe will be the better platform, and in terms of lap times, I think you might be surprised, my guess is the 2.0t R-Spec will put down a better time. |
