A huge percentage of the modified cars at my school are hondas, a couple nissans, 1 ae86, and a sweet modified cressida , im sure that there're a couple more that i havent seen

But when i saw the idiot driving the supra revving it like it was gran turismo, i couldnt help but laugh at him on the outside but crying on the inside for the poor car.

To be honest the most fun I ever had in a car was in a 290hp NSX hard top and a miata( hate to addmit it) at a track event, from what I hear this car will be like those or even better at a fraction of the cost.

Now that would keep me entertained for some time.

I can tell you one thing...the Supra will have far less (if any) depreciation versus the FR-S or BRZ.

Here's mine...

My Supra is 17 years old, and in the five years I've owned it, nothing has failed or broken. All I've spent money on for the car is for tires and oil changes. The car has performed flawlessly and has not been a money pit at all. Far from it.

Even better, it's now worth more than what I paid for it five years ago.

yeah but a new car is more like throwing money away than an old car that has bottomed out if not has gone back up in price. if you can really afford a supra you are on the wrong forum

new frs is better. unless the supra is a toy or second car i wouldnt want all that old tech for a DD. now that ive used usb/aux for music theres no going back to cds.

for a project/fun car id go supra and have fun working on it on the weekends and not care if it gets shitty mpg since it wouldnt be driven much

We just might have different priorities. For a DD I would take a BRZ over a 10-17 year old Supra. If it was for a project car to work on then sure maybe the Supra is a better choice for the OP. Old cars deal with wear and tear not knowing how well previous owners took care of them.

Anyways OP seems to have made up his mind. He views Supra as a better car. It isn't our job to convince him the BRZ is better. I personally would take a new BRZ because of being new, NA, lightweight...etc.

i see your point but he asked us. i also kind of wonder what this whole green thing has done to reliability. fundamentally, the supra is a tough as cars get. i wouldnt be surprised if a clean, late supra would last longer than a brand new frs. in my head it would be just about a wash since you would lose in maintenance initially on the supra but you would get back in the lack of depreciation. i hope the frs becomes a big deal but with a supra we know it is.

maybe im just partial since ive had a mk2 and 3 supra and the earlier had over 400k on the odo when i got rid of it with no major issues

I think if you're debating between these two cars you should really reconsider what you actually want in a car.

Look at it like this. When most people are considering purchasing a Supra, they are usually also considering cars like 03/04 Cobras and Corvettes, not miatas and RX-8s(which are some of the closest cars to the FR-S/BRZ)

Think about what you really want from this car. If acceleration and power is your thing, look into a well maintained Supra. If you want better mpg, a fresh new body/interior (something that isn't abused, about 80% of all Supras have been abused) and you don't want to worry about maintenance, get a new car. Keep in mind though that there are a few cars out there on the market to consider that are creeping up on stock Supra performance (3.8 GC, 370Z) which can be had for around the same price (or a tad more) as a Supra with 100k miles.

Choose wisely, don't rush into a buy - and as I said before, if you're considering a Supra, go test drive one, and then go test drive a Miata and an RX-8 (or wait for the FR-S/BRZ). See which aspects of each car that you like the best.

Supramaster. If you cant decide then wait until the beginning of 2013 and see how the new supra appeals to you.

that's true. but it could change very fast if toyota ever launches a new supra.

if you look at the previous supra models they depreciated quite a bit. the reason the mkIV has kept it's value abnormally long is it's the last one they made before they stopped making the supra.
