First Ferrari, now Porsche???
With such a heavy following for the MT tranny, I thought this article was interesting. So... could we be witnessing the demise of the MT? Will the FRS/BRZ continue with the MT in the future? I guess only time will tell.

Great question, and I think they highly likely will stay MT in the future. Unlike Porsche and Ferrari who has the money to keep pumping out these high end dual clutch cars, I think Subaru and Toyota will op to stay true and simple. That and aside from Lexus you don't hear much about the successes of the STI's auto.
I think this belongs in the Other Automotive and General car dicussion because the article is about Porsche. Great post though

I've driven a VW Scirocco with DSG around the Nurburgring and it works, I hate automatics but DSG works very well for tracks. Strangely, the place I really want a clutch pedal is around town in the same place where people bring up the laziness argument about wanting an auto for traffic.

Lol don't worry I mean look we still have horses, MT isn't going anywhere soon. But these new electric cars require an Auto I don't think MT can handle the torque these things are putting out. Can you imagine the stage of clutch you need to move something that does 1000 LBS torque like the Fisker Karma.

Actually for me, if I had to choose for like say a time attack at a track ... I would pick Dual or Auto over Manual because when it's that sort of situation they are faster. But then we're getting into auto vs MT dicussion and I think there's a 60 page thread on that lol.
There are some perks of the Auto, simple things like I like to be able to hold my girl's hand when I'm driving and not have to shift every so often, or when I'm stuf in LA and DC traffic. But then again I guess that's what having a daily driver is for, and I'm with converted I was going to get an AT but came back to MT. Your right... AT is so boring... at least for me on long trips

For super high performance cars it makes sense that they're switching to the dual clutch systems. They can shift faster and more precise than a manual transmission, and with the advances in technology the downshifting is surpassing anything a driver can do with a stick and clutch. I'm a huge fan of the mechanical connection that a manual transmission gives a driver, but from a pure performance standpoint, the dual clutch "automatic" transmissions are definitely the future.
