The software is offered under a fair usage policy. If we see the owner behaving as a commercial tuner, they will be asked to upgrade to the full Trade software package.

That would make since because they sale their maps that they build. I dont think it would be right for us to be able to pull them and share.
This is correct, but as posted elsewhere, the software is offered under a fair usage policy. And we agree with your last point.

If you have a ProECU programming kit, then the base ProECU BRZ software is free. See the beginning of this thread to see what you get with that. If you don’t have a licence, you will need to purchase that from your Master Tuner you received the programming kit from.

If you want a few of the extra RaceROM features, again see the beginning of this thread to see what they are, you will need to purchase the RaceROM BRZ upgrade from the Master Tuner.

If you have nothing, then you will need to approach one of our Master Tuners found on our website and work out a deal with them to purchase a programming Kit, a licence and if you need it, the RaceROM BRZ upgrade. Then you will be able to tune your car with the access to all that you need. The software is offered under a fair usage policy, so if we see the user behaving as a commercial tuner, then they will be asked to upgrade to the full Trade package.
Well it's definitely about time! To lock and keep maps secretive does the community a HUGE dis-service. I never understood why you guys, or anybody, would do such a thing. I'm glad that you guys have finally opened you gates though. I can see many great things to come with your product now it being end-user capable.

Now if I searched correctly, the retail programming kit w/ license is around $800? And the racerom features are an additional $400? That's msrp. So I would be looking at $1200 for everything, retail price? That's still pretty steep when compared to your main competitor at the moment that sells their full end user tunable unit for $500.

My question is, what makes you guys think you're worth more than double the price of your main competitor? Why would somebody still choose to buy Ecutek, even if all accessed, over the $500 competitor product that essentially does the same thing? Tune your vehicle.

Actually its not. You can purchase the License and Programming Kit alone download the free software and start tuning for just that investment. The reason the kits are usually around 800-900 is because the tune includes a tuned map for you. The ProEcu software will allow you to open an open EcuTek file or OFT RomRaider tune file as well so you dont technically need a specific file from us unless you prefer to and wont be tuning the car yourself. And Im sure some tuners and manufacturers will provide base maps in the near future.

i can't help but wonder where we'd be by now if they would've just done it this way from the beginning. the custom map setups we'll collectively come up with are exciting. but better to start late than never!

custom maps. in the hands of normal people. i can't even begin to imagine the possibilities. it's endless, and it's going to be seriously badass once people start can start bumping heads together with these tools. custom maps are a killer feature that i don't see anyone else getting for a long time, if ever. it's what sold me for sure.

And what is the price for the full trade software package? Is this equivalent to becoming a master tuner?

Thanks Tony. This is true, and ultimately you gets what you pays for, so you can make your choice now.

Your initial investment will set you up as a standard tuner. If you want to investigate this please e-mail sales@ecutek.com. Once we have had the chance to get to know you and seen your work, there is an opportunity to upgrade to Master Tuner. Because Master tuners have to support the Retail Kits they sell we need to be comfortable that you are able to do this.

This should really change and overhaul what is possible for this platform. As more people become experienced and some of the load is lifted off the number of master tuners, we should start seeing more reliable data.

This will also mean the existing tuners will be held to higher standards much to their own annoyance I am sure.

If you want a cable kit and license you should be able to get that for about $650. ProEcu D/l is free, you start from there. You'd be able to do your own custom tune for that price.

If you want to Add the RaceRom feature tuning you would be looking at the $399 upgrade at that point.

I see all these posts about unlocked maps from tuners.
It ain't going to happen. Period.

This is akin to the Cobb model of tuning. You can have a "Pro Tune" which is locked by the pro tuner. or you can have a "Race Tune" that you are able to make by downloading the free Accesstuner Race software.

It would be very difficult, IMO, to get the tuner to give you a "Race" compatible map. Some will do it, most won't

I applaud ECUTek.
