i'm still not clear as to whether this is like a software package where i pull my stock map and edit it, or if i'm meant to go get a tune from a vendor and then able to edit it. basically whether or not i can create a bespoke map and share it, and whether or not the vendor tune is a necessary expense.

also does this come with the racerom features delicioustuning was showing where you can define your own tables?

I'm still trying to understand too.

If I ONLY do the free upgrade to ProECU BRZ can I:

A) Create my own map from scratch

B) Edit everything in a tune as long as my tuner unlocks it EXCEPT editing any of the RACEROM features he created.

If I BUY the RaceROM BRZ:

C) I can create my own map from scratch including RaceROM features and custom Maps

D) Can fully Edit a tune from my tuner (inlcuding RaceROm features) as long as he unlocks it for me.

i think it's like "where i pull my stock map and edit it". there is no way you'll be able to get a tune from a vendor and then edit it! unless they unlock it which obviously they won't.

i'm also not sure if you'll be able to save and/or share your own tune in unencrypted bin format. good Q tho. which leads to another one, would it be possible to load an unencrypted bin tune into EcuTek.

i'm guessing no on the last one. they have significant custom logic going on in the roms.

the reason i asked that question to begin with is just to figure out whether or not i have to pay a tuner for a tune or if i can just make it myself and avoid the expense.

well, it's still possible if they just wipe out their custom logic on saving in opened bin format or add it when loading an opened bin format. now if any of those custom tables/logic is utilized in the tune then they could warn that the tune will be screwed up by saving in opened bin format.

Im pretty sure you will not be able to edit a tune that you received from a tuner. It sounds to me like you will have to basically build your own tune. You can only build one tune without the upgrade meaning no map switching. Im not sure if tuners will be offering a base map or not.

I think you will be able to save and share your own tune that you built but not one that was bought from a tuner like fa20club visconti or any of them.

That would make since because they sale their maps that they build. I dont think it would be right for us to be able to pull them and share.

you can always use the ProEcu kit on more than one car, but each car will require a license

just to be clear: with the 'RaceROM BRZ' package and one of your license/dongle/cable things, i can edit all of the known stock maps, in addition to the racerom stuff like speed density?

also, does the 'programming kit' come with the license or is that an additional $300 on top? if so we're talking $1150 out the door for license/programming kit/racerom brz software. that's a bit steep. can the maps be shared between users? do i still have to pay for a tune from a vendor or can i start from scratch?
Ill go through and clarify as much as I can Since Ecutek is closed for the day.

This free version of software is the equivalent of what you have with brzedit/OFT/RomRaider.

You are provided a stock map which you can edit to your liking with the same map options available from the competition.

If you already have a tuned map you can contact the tuner who sold you the tune and see if they are willing to open up the map to you. If not you can start from scratch.

The the full version of the software that you have the option to purchase you will have access to even more tuning capabilities such as SD, Custom tables for creating your own Traction Control or Flex Fuel options. You can purchase a programming kit on its own but if you dont already have a license installed in your ecu you will need one regardless to begin.
