I used to have the 6 spd. The 2nd gear was impossible to get into when the tranny was cold. But it was nice rifle bolt action like short and mechanic shifter.
For autoX though, 5 speed was more desirable because you can go up to higher speed before you need to shift to the 3rd gear.

I drove my dad's 2006 MX-5 yesterday and it's fun. It's even automatic (@160hp) and has enough power. I love the seating position and the sound. It's no wonder it's such a popular car.
I don't know how it will compare to the FRS other than they are sporty cars. Obviously the FRS is a 2+2, so there's a little more practicality, but I think they'll be pretty much the same; with the FRS being a bit quicker. The MX-5 is really plasticy on the inside, so I think the newer FRS will be a bit more nicer and comfortable. And about the debate about why only 200hp out of the FRS engine, and I'll bet that the engine was made to be tuned. But that's just speculation on my part.

I would buy a RX-8 if thay would use a different engine than the wankel with all the problems it has.

& considering how much performance people can get w/ aftermarket parts on a STi, i can see a turbo FR-S & BRZ being very tuner friendly.

plus there is quite a bit of room between the engine & hood, that can't be a coincidence.

if someone really want a light weight sport car, like a miata, then why not wait till the next gen miata instead? it will supposedly weight less that 2200 lbs with a better power to weight ratio than the current car. That will keep miataphiles in love with their miatas and not arguing about what car has better driving dynamics, since it would be obvious.... although it would keep bulimic BRZ/FRS owners jealous hummmm
