I'm on Pilot Supersports on the RX-7. Great summer grip, great at the track, but yesterday I unintentionally power-slid making a left turn in the dry, 50F temperature. Tires fully warmed up, had just driven 12 miles at 60+mph. Frankly a bit surprised at the lack of grip in coolish (not cold) conditions. Should note that the rears are biggish 275s on a 2900 lb car, which must have hindered warm-up a bit...

I like those tires, but are they worth 270 a tire? Some reviews are talking about wet grip or lack there of.

To state the obvious, I think it really depends on what your needs are. But for a hybrid of street driving (warm weather, rain) and the track.

There are better tires for the dollar if you ONLY plan on driving in the dry. Such as Hankook RS3s or straight up slicks.

That's the thing, it costs that much here in oz too. Nothing in that price range is better than the AD08R, the RS3 here is even more expensive than that so it made the choice very easy.
As for wet grip, it is better than the stock tyres so it is still an improvement. The tyre is also more comfy than the stock tyre.

That's not just my opinion, but what all the "expert" reviews and customer surveys say.
What about climates with snow? AS3 not gonna cut it

I'm running Pilot Super Sport 225/45ZR17s on 17x7.5 +48 RPF1s. They definitely exist in that size.

My favorite on my 04 WRX was the Mich. Pilot Sport AS/3 (four or five different types tried). That's the one I'll buy for the BRZ.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S3 will be fine for up to a couple inches of snow, but anything more and you'll need either dedicated snow tires or a 4x4.

Low temperatures are the enemy of summer tires. Under 50°F they start to harden, and under 40°F they become hockey pucks. The AS3's Helio compound with sunflower oil allows these tires to perform well in subfreezing temperatures, and thus are more "practical" for anyone who drives their car rear round and doesn't live in places with climates like So. Cal., Florida, or Canada.

AS/3 is actually fair to middlin' in snow on an AWD platform. And not a panic situation if you get caught out in a Spring/Fall snow shower in the BRZ.

For real snow in big hills like I have, the BRZ is best parked (mine's parked ). We're a three car operation. Other two are AWD and snow tire equipped for Winter.
