Damn wings that looks hot! Looks like an $70K+ sports car!

I wouldn't mind that for $25K or less

agreed - cars are white goods to a lot of people

it may be the second most expensive thing you buy, but people treat them more and more like buying a washing machine or fridge-freezer

a lack of interesting cars coming out over the past 10-15 years has also contributed to this

From the cold, superficial world of bean counters and top CEO's, yes that is true. Ask anyone on the factory floor, or any of the designers, or engineers, and you tell them that they work to fulfill the great promise of volume...they will not agree.

If your cars don't generate excitement or passion on some level, you aren't selling cars, you're selling appliances.

PS: I rode in a new Boss 302 last night, and that car is about passion...I went from six to midnight in a hurry. Appliance cars will never do that for people who truly love what cars can be.

unfortunately people who love cars only make up a very small portion of the buying market.

The average joe doesn't see a car anymore than a tool or appliance. Its just a magical machine that takes you places.

The upper middle class average joe wants their cars to do everything their iphone does.

Passion doesn't sell, although it generates interest in a boring automotive industrial conglomerate.

Good business means we create a product, and convince you..you need it/ you want it.

Everyone of us here is opted out of this population, we are the minority. Because we are enthusiasts, and want our cars to function like cars.

I fucking hate big business. Is there not a company out there that makes cars only for passion?

I couldn't care less what the mindless sheeple buy in droves...I don't consider them relevant despite their staggering market share. The are stuck living their repetitious and mundane lives driving their appliances.

I think it really depends on the look and the feel of the car, sometimes a good car will come out and will fail because it looks like crap.

I'm thinking along the lines of Noble, Caterham or some other one-off/kit.

I guess i ment..is there any company that builds passionate cars for the average consumer. A single car maker that would build cars similar to the Zx6/S15/WRX/GTR at around 15k-50k

You may not care, but it effects you wither you like it or not. Because if the industry cares even a little bit more about our needs as the minority (enthusiasts) than the needs of those sheeple..maybe we would have more variety for us..and wouldn't be hoping for a this so called miracle RWD sports car in the automotive world.

Most people who buy cars don't even want to bother changing the oil, there's no way that "passion" means much from a business standpoint...unless that passion is the passionate hate for car maintenance :P

Back on topic, I hate that extravagantly "coke bottle" body...why do people like bulging fenders so much? They're bad for aero too (slightly).

From a designers point a view, the round bulging fender is aesthetically pleasing. It adds a soft robust line to accentuate large wheels. Because typically the focal point of car art design revolves around the wheel design.

Aerodynamics and engineering are only considered very little if at all in the mind of a designer.

This truth does not apply to the design of a race car.

if its aero vs weight then it could make sense. if you want your wheels as far apart as you can you either make the car bigger or do that with the fenders
